What are you bringing to a holiday party....

Looking for some inspiration for some parties I'm going to.
Appetizer, dessert, etc?

Re: What are you bringing to a holiday party....

Unless the person requests that I bring a food item, I usually just bring a nice bottle of wine or liquor, or sometimes a hostess type gift (e.g., last year I brought a friend who entertains a lot a small gift set from Home Goods with a jeweled wine stopper, a cheese spreader, and holiday guest napkins/towels).

But if you are requested to bring a dessert, I like to do a holiday-ish cheesecake (I've done Bailey's flavored cheesecake, you could do amaretto, eggnog, etc.). Or even do mini bite sized cheesecakes (in a mini muffin tin) instead of a big one. You could also do homemade truffles or fudge, or if you bake holiday cookies, a cookie platter. A fruit platter and/or chocolate covered strawberries are always nice.

For appetizers - in my family, we do a lot of seafood around the holidays (esp. Christmas Eve). I have a great (and pretty easy) baked clams recipe (you can actually do a baked clam dip, or scoop some into individual foil clam shells and bake them for individual baked clams). I also like to do marinated shrimp - you heat olive oil with garlic, then take it off the heat and mix in lemon zest, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and chopped fresh parsley. Toss it with cooked shrimp and chill it until ready to serve (serve cold). I think Brie Bites (raspberry jelly, a cube of brie, and a pecan half baked in mini phyllo shells) are holiday-ish and very nice with champagne!

I go to an open house every year where we sleep over, so I think it's nice to bring a coffee cake for breakfast the next day or just as a hostess gift. Williams-Sonoma has an amazing recipe for raspberry sour cream crumb cake that I can find if you are interested. I plan to bring that to my friend's house this year.

We have a growing area on our site that has amazing homemade recipes from our clients and online followers. I have made most of the recipes myself, and they are amazing, especially the desserts, Here is the link at kitchendesigns.com

Re: What are you bringing to a holiday party....

Last year I brought my homemade holiday cookies arranged on a cake stand, leaving the cake stand as a gift for the hostess.

I always bring prosecco.

One of my friends requested that I bring PB cup s'mores bars.

I'll probably also make peanut butter kiss cookies for another get together.
