Would this bother you? Re collection of $
Most of dd class gave$30 toward a class fund that would go towards teacher gifts. There are 25 kids lets say half gave this amount to the fund. Would you be surprised to learn that your child's teacher got $25 g.c and assistant $15 for the holidays?

Re: Would this bother you? Re collection of $
They collected $30 pp and gave gifts totaling $40? YEah, I would be wondering what happened to the rest of the money. Was there a party or something else that the money could have gone towards?

Was the $30 per child specifically for Christmas or for the whole year? They might save the " big gift" for the end of the year gift, and also might give something for the teachers birthday.

Re: Would this bother you? Re collection of $
Wen my dd was in elementary school we collected $25 a child. $5 went to the teacher at the holidays, and again at the end of the year. $2.50 went to the asst/lunch aide. Te rest of the money went to purchase snacks and supplies for the parties.

I would certainly ask how the money is distributed. That's odd.

Re: Would this bother you? Re collection of $
We contributed 17.00 to our class funds. 5.00 of it is used toward the holiday teacher gift, 5.00 is used toward the end of the year teacher gift, and 7.00 is used for class supplies such as party plates, napkins, snacks, etc. The 7.00 per person for supplies does not go very far if the teacher has a lot of special events where she needs extras.

Re: Would this bother you? Re collection of $
I have been a class parent multiple times, and I'm also a PTA officer. At our school, the class funds are not just for one specific teacher gift-- they are for Christmas, Teacher Appreciation Day, and End of Year. The rest of the money goes toward classroom celebrations. So while it's definitely good to inquire, I would bet that the $30 per student is being used in similar ways.

Re: Would this bother you? Re collection of $
Was the collection for the whole year or just for the holidays? Did it just go to the teachers? Or do they put some aside for specials and the office or other helpers? There has to be something else going on for the gift to be so little. I would just ask the class mom.

This is what our class moms do.

Re: Would this bother you? Re collection of $
I received more info that the money collected is for holiday and end of the year and certain class parties (paper plates, cups) I'm still scratching my head because every party we receive an email to bring stuff in like paper plates, napkins, juice etc. I'm just surprised when 95% contributed that teacher got that amount for a gift card. I also found out that school policy is that they can get over that amount ($25) I'm always one to send stuff in and and if there is one item left out I volunteer to get it as well I'm just surprised at the amount they received on behalf of the class. I'll be honest if I knew this was going to be handled like this I would have just done gifts on my own and continue to bring stuff in for parties. I didn't receive any info that its being used for school supplies just class gifts and certain parties but the PTA had say on the amount for gift cards

Re: Would this bother you? Re collection of $
I think that's wrong and odd and I would find out more. Plus, I would be embarrassed to give a teacher such a small gift from a WHOLE class or bunch of people. I would spend that alone on my DCs teacher.

If it's school policy - than that is all they can give her. They might try to make it up in other ways throughout the year.
Craft supplies at the various holidays add up too.
