NYC DOE- paying back days

I borrowed 20 days after I had my baby and now I have - 16 days in my bank. I heard you could buy back the days through your paycheck, has anyone done this?

2nd question: when you have baby # 2 do you get to borrow days again or is it just a one time deal?

I hate to ask my payroll secretary as she is sooooo nasty...

You can buy them back..not entirely sure of the process, but it was recommended at the workshop that you do it sooner rather than later as the days are cheaper before you get any step salary raises...try HR Connect...I found they knew the answers...

I believe you can borrow 20 days each year if need be. I had a colleague who was sick a few times and had to borrow. Took a while to pay them back but it was possible

You can have the days taken out of your check, based on what you decide- one day a pay period, two days, etc.

Call downtown- I forget the number- and you will be given the name of your payroll secretary's regional support person, who can help your payroll secretary if she has trouble.

Put your request in writing and you may want to cc your principal (this is the one thing I didn't do, but should have.) I quit the DOE in June and still owned days from my leave and I regret not trying to pay them back because it came out in a large chunk in August.

You will have to be on top of your payroll secretary, sorry she's difficult. My payroll secretary was also a pain and she just blew me off. And I didn't pursue it, but I should have and I should have involved my UFT person. Don't let your payroll sec tell you it can't be done.
