Would anyone be able to answer this question?
I am wondering about something, and would appreciate any insight from people on this board, be it a parent or a teaching professional specializing in any kind of issues.
If a school-age child's parents make an appointment with a psychiatrist to diagnose a possible issue and/or if the child is seeing a psychiatrist for that issue if it has been confirmed, is the psychiatrist's office obligated to inform the school of the issue and does the issue go on the child's record permanently?
TIA!

Just my opinion as a parent, if the child is recieving services out side of school and the school is not involved at all, then no they do not need to know or need to put it on record. Now if the child has issues that may be harmful to other students then the psychiatrist should be contacting the school to make them aware.

No, due to confidentiality laws, the psychiatrist would not be allowed to tell the school about the issues he/she is treating the patient for unless the parent signs consent. The only exception is if the patient is going to put someone in imminent danger (e.g., patient reveals plan to shoot someone).

if it was done privately no, if they school recommended it and you signed off on papers yes they have a right to know.
unless the parents specifically state they want the SD to know they cannot notify them
