Chia seeds. Who uses them?

I know they are very good for you, but the calorie amount seems high. Any experiences? Thanks

Chia seeds. Who uses them?

My advice is go easy on them when first incorporating them into your diet. They can be difficult to digest. They can absorb up to 12x their weight in water and are often used in gluten free baking since they have a gummy sort of glutenous texture when mixed with water.

I've seen them in recipes for overnight refrigerator oatmeal... I think the Skinnytaste recipe calls for them, but in a small quantity (like a tablespoon). I haven't used them yet. Haven't found them, but I've heard Walgreen's has them for a better price than other stores.

I just started using them-

they have 70 calories per serving

that's my breakfast- keeps me full till lunch

they have fiber, omega 3- and they keep you full

Chia seeds are great. I use them in smoothies, overnight oats, sometimes I'll even sprinkle them over my salad.

Like Beth said - great for fiber & Omega 3 & keep you full.

Love them! Mix some chia seeds with almond milk and let it sit! Add some fruit and you have a yummy dessert!

I use them all the time but my favorite has to be making jam with over ripe berries.
I mash the berries in a small pot on the stove with coconut water..take off the stove and add the chia seeds. This lasts a few days in the fridge. I use it to top plain greek yogurt, oatmeal for the kids, protein pudding (you can even make a protein pudding with the chia seeds).....

I feel like we focus on calories too often and not nutrition value- when you eat processed foods you are always hungry for more- and you tend to over eat them

I am losing weight- I eat chia seeds, 2 avacados a day and nuts (along with other fruits and veggies)

I am never starving- I have not even come close to being sick (normally I would be sick at leaast 2 times by now), I have tons of energy

I would rather eat Chia seeds then a 100 calorie pack-

Yes! I just saw a recipe similar - chia seeds, almond milk, let it sit for 15 mins or so, add cinnamon & a little stevia to taste & it's like a milkshake... Chat Icon

I agree about focusing too much on calories rather than nutritional value. If you eat whole, unprocessed foods, there's no need to count calories Chat Icon

I love them! I once made a pudding out of them! I don't focus on calories that way. I focus on eating healthy. I eat a lot of nuts and seeds daily. Chia and flax are staples for me!
