I have a few social media clients on the side. One of them (who i have a great relationship with) called me on Sunday, basically yelling at me for not telling him about FB like campaigns. I didn't tell him about them because he's got such a great following that it was a waste of money. Plus he's got a million other FB ad campaigns running. So he tells me that he does not pay me to consult and that I should tell him everything and do whatever he says. He knows absolutely nothing about social media btw.

So to cover my @ss, I was thinking about sending an email that covers every single social network that is somewhat popular that he does not have a presence on. He does not have a presence on them because I have thought it wasn't necessary but he did ask for me to tell him everything. (ie, he has a blog on one platform but of course there are other platforms available.) As a friend who has referred other business to me, I have no plans to raise his retainer but if he wants significantly more activity I will need to because I don't have the manpower to do much more than I am already doing without subcontracting some of the work out since I have three other clients to look after. So if he wants more, I will have to raise his retainer after all - and I will communicate that.

So should I send that email, or do you think it would come across sarcastic. I'd say something along the lines of 'I realize you'd like to know about all social media-related opportunities available and I have therefore put together the list below. If you want my thoughts I am happy to share them but for now this is factual only.'

WWYD?

ETA: i am questioning this because i think it will come off sarcastic.

I think I would send the email - he asked for info on everything and if he comes across something else that you didn't mention, he might wonder why (although it sounds like you've done the right thing in the past, he has now changed what he wants). If he says to go forward with the additional work, you will have to explain that you might have to sub out some of the work which will result in additional expenses.

I don't think it would come off sarcastic... I'd frame it like "After our conversation the other day, you indicated that you were interested in knowing all of the social media related opportunities available. Below please find a list that I have compiled. Please let me know if you would like to discuss any of these opportunities in further detail."

Re: clients - WWYD

send it but think about when you may want to explain what is and what is not covered in the initial retainer agreement. he could really want to add a lot of work to your plate.
