CPSE Parent Advocate Recommendation?
I had another meeting at DS' school today. I think I am going to need an advocate because apparently there are services that DS might be entitled to that I was unaware of. It was only today where I heard I can request a "push in" to help with social/emotional needs. The social worker mentioned it "in passing." Makes me wonder what other things I can ask for that I do not know about. The social worker feels strongly that my school district (MCSD) is not going to look favorably on a full day program in the fall and ANY summer program is going to be met with severe opposition. I need someone that knows the system and will help me get the most for DS. Any and all help is appreciated!

CPSE Parent Advocate Recommendation?
Marilee Shannon is who my friend used, and who I hear is the absolute best around here. She is also in Middle Country and had a hard time. Marilee got her what her son needed. I don't know her number though. I will try to get it for you.

i know a lot of ppl who used the DanLette Agency.
they are in Oceanside but they are fabulous

I am a "Parent Advocate" for another district. In the training that we had to attend, we were told that we are not really there to "offer" services to you for your child, or to "recommend" what "we" think. We are really just there to make sure that your rights are protected, and that if you have any questions, we can help you get them answered. I really feel pretty useless when I attend the meetings. So, hiring somebody you know will be on your side is not a bad way to go.

That is a different type of advocate. The type of advocate the OP is talking about is usually a lawyer or paralegal.
Yes, you pay them. They basically challenge the district to get you what your child is entitled to.

No, I know that. I just wanted the OP to know the difference...that the "Parent Member" on the CPSE team can not "advocate" for them.
