How to keep bagels fresh?

When you buy from the bagel store, how do you keep them fresh for a few days?

when we have bagels leftover we always put them in big ziplocks and suck all the air out of them. we will still toast them though, since this doesn't keep them 100% fresh.

This, but after a couple of days, I freeze them. They freeze well and taste fresh when you defrost (and then I toast them anyway!).

I leave them in the paper bag and put that in a plastic bag. I find ziplocs make them a little soggy and just paper of course dries them out.

Then when they're not fresh, I make bagel chips!

I slice them and then freeze them. To defrost I either nuke them or toast them.

or I just keep them in the paper bag and then in a plastic bag

but our bagels usually do not last that long.

If I have a couple bagels leftover I make french toast out of themChat Icon

Thanks for the tips ladies! I am craving bagels each morning since morning sickness has reared and its expensive and annoying to stop at a bagel store each morning, so I was thinking of buying half a dozen and making it at home.

They actually freeze surprisingly well. I used to keep them in the freezer at college. Even nuking them for 15 seconds helps soften them up a bit. I didn't have a toaster available in my dorm. Chat Icon

oh, in that case i would definitely slice them and freeze them. then pop them in the toaster (you might have to put it through twice) when you want them.

ITA! They taste just as good if you freeze them the same day you buy them.

Re: How to keep bagels fresh?

I freeze same day.

They still taste great like a month later LOL.

I nuke mine for 25 secs, then toast.

DH doesn't even toast them after he nukes.

Re: How to keep bagels fresh?

I wrap them in plastic & try to use them within a day or two at most because otherwise they just don't last.

You can definitely freeze them if you eat toasted bagels! I am very picky when it comes to bread going stale but they really do taste fresh!
