Hershey candy bars are not what I would use for baking or recipes. I have found that the bars are tempered differently and do not hold up well in recipes. Also, I don't like taste, it's not great quality. You could definitely try out a recipe to see if it works well.

i dont think hersheys candy bars are pure like the chips are. there might be stuff added to it. but i dont have any idea. pick a recipe that uses the bar so that you know it'll turn out right!

Re: baking question - whats the difference between Hershey Chocolate Candy Bars and milk chocolate chips
Chocolate chips, of any brand, have additives that make them hold their shape. So they work better in recipes where you want pieces of chocolate (e.g., chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chunk muffins, etc.) versus recipes where you want to melt the chocolate down to make something like a chocolate ganache/icing. Chocolate bars - regardless of brand - are better when you want smoothly melted chocolate.
I usually use Lindt chocolate bars for recipes where I need melted chocolate to incorporate into batter or frosting or whatever, but I am sure Hershey's would work fine, too.
I would just be aware that many baking recipes call for semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, which have more cocoa/less sugar. Your Hershey bars are probably milk chocolate bars, and if so, you may want to look for recipes calling for that type of chocolate.

Any kind of chocolate chip actually has additives to it to hold it's shape.
If your recipe calls for melting chocolate, you are better off using a bar because it will melt to a much smoother consistency.
