I'm slightly allergic..lily will give me hives at times
Schnauzers are great for people with allergies bc they don't shed-fantastic dogs too!

Re: Are there really hypoallergenic dogs?
I am also allergic to some dogs, I have a Brussels Griffon (rough coat) who doesn't shed, and my mom has a shih tzu who doesn't shed at all. I am allergic to my sisters French Bulldogs, and some other types of dogs (break out in hives and wheeze) but its managable with Allegra and Benadryl. I am also asthmatic but have never had a bad attack from a dog allergy.
Shih tzus are hypoallergenic dogs and since they don't have fur they have hair they really don't shed. This would be my choice along with a Bichon.

I second mini schnauzers. They don't shed and are very smart. Because they don't shed they do require a bit of grooming but we take our guy every 6 weeks and that seems to be good enough.

This. DH is allergic but we have a schnauzer and he is fine. Once ina while he will sneeze after she gets a haircut (if the haircut creates any dander) but it's minor and goes away in a day or two.

Re: Are there really hypoallergenic dogs?
hypoallergenic dogs aren't really allergy free. My husband is very allergic to dogs. His allergist told him he can never ever live with a dog. I wanted a dog really bad so we ended up getting a havanese which is a hypoallergenic breed. He does ok with her, if she scratches him he gets a reaction and during really bad allergy seasons he has a hard time in the house if he doesn't take his claritin. We're making it work, we even got a 2nd dog so it clearly isn't too bad.
