...and do they participate in state testing?

If your child goes to private school, do they follow the common core standards?
Our school follows it but DS is only in 2nd so I don't know about testing. There is testing on the school calendar for this week.

My SIL has her kids in a catholic school in Queens and I know they switched to it I think last year.

Yes, they are following Common Core.
And yes they do the State testing, HOWEVER, only for grades 4, 6 and 8.

This is true for our Catholic school as well.

My kids are in a private, independent school (not Catholic) and they do not do state testing. They are not mandated to follow Common Core but I do not know if they choose to follow it. If they do, they don't call it that! They do have one test per year called the ERB which is very low-stress for the kids but allows the school to see where they are in comparison to other independent schools.

I believe all catholic schools in the city follow common core and they all state test 4,6,8. I don't know about li

My kids are in a different school but ours follows this as well.

I'm going to look into independent schools. If anyone has a rec. in Suffolk, please FM me!
I'm disappointed that the entire focus of my child's day is on ELA and Math. She is only in kindergarten, and in speaking to other parents that have children in higher grades, the hands on science and fun educational experiences are pretty much non existent with the common core now. Too much focus on state testing.
