Inflammation in Neck/Back in pugs

My 11 year old pug couldn't stand or walk when we came came back from vacation. We took her to the vet and he said she has severe inflammation in her neck and spine. The vet said he is waiting for the blood test results to tell me further information.

What causes this type of inflammation?

What is the prognosis for dogs with this issue?

Any experience would be helpful.

We are so upset, but don't want her in pain anymore. It's heartbreaking.

Thank you for responding. The doctor is so impressed. She is starting to walk again on inflammatory medication and antibiotics. The doctor said she has terrible arthritis that caused the inflammation and has an infection on top of it, so she couldn't walk. He was even shocked when the medication worked so fast and she took a few steps. We are so relieved our first fur baby is going to be ok. Thanks again.
