Driving your DC to school instead of going on the bus?
Has anyone driven DC to school instead of going on the bus? Do you have to make a decision and let the school know your plan, or can you use the bus one day then not the next day?

I drive mine...but if you are ever going to randomly have kid on bus, totally do it first day when everyone else is learning

Also,do you think it is a disadvantage from a social standpoint? If you want to send your DC on the bus the following year, will they have missed out socially since their peers were on the bus already for a year? hope i am making sense

I do not worry about that. Some kids walk, some show up in daycare vans, if they were going to private, there would be no bus.
They age gone 8 hours a day being social.
But if you want to send them next year, I a sure they will just blend in with the scene

The school doesn't care how your kid gets TO school, as long as he shows up on time!  It's just coming home that you'd need to let them know.
I don't think it matters if you switch bus and car, as long as your kid is okay with it and you're not causing undue stress for him (like he needs predictability, etc).

If your child is riding the bus one day, and being picked up the next, you def. need to let the school know. Otherwise your child will be on a bus when you are standing there waiting to pick him/her up.
I drive my child and pick her up everyday. We live 5 minutes from school, not even. The bus comes 30 minutes before school starts. I see the buses sitting in the lot sometimes for 15 minutes before they are let off. Seems silly, and I'm home, so why not. In addition, one driver and 60 kids doesn't make for the best supervision.
They have an entire school day to be social. They don't need the bus for that ;)

AGREE, my DS rode the bus for the first month of school when an older child launched an attack on him. I started driving him and will continue to drive him and pick him up. The only kind of socializing on the bus is the kind most parents don't want their kids engaging in. (I am not saying all buses are bad per say) Have you ever followed a bus and watched the kids in the back .

I may drive my dc as well. The bus ride is 40 minutes, which I think is too long for a Kindy child. I did wonder about the social part of it, but a lot of kids get driven, or come from before care/day care etc

Your drivers wait? My son rides the bus and they have never waited when he rode the large bus. In two different districts. I would imagine that would be a lot of calls to the bus garage in the morning to let them know your child won't be at the bus stop. I doubt they would even relay the message unless it's a mini bus!
