Upset with vet - Cat blockage related
My almost 3 year old cat, Harvey, had peed outside of the litter box 3 times in the last two weeks. The last time was Saturday morning when he peed on my bed so I knew something was going on. I called the vet and took him in. They told me it was a urinary tract infection and prescribed antibiotics.
Fast forward to yesterday afternoon. DH and I had been out and came home to blood droplets all around the house. I found Harvey and saw he had blood on his butt. I called the emergency vet since it was Labor Day and I knew our regular vet wasn't open. They told me to bring him in ASAP as it was definitely an emergency. It turns out it was a blockage and he had to have an emergency procedure to relieve his bladder which was full and to clear the blockage. They said his bladder could have ruptured and he could have died.
Does anyone have experience with this? I can't believe that it escalated so quickly, especially with him being seen by his own vet on Saturday. They asked for a urine sample when we brought him in but they told us they'd be closed until Tuesday. Never did they tell me it could escalate into a blockage. I'm so upset!

Re: Upset with vet - Cat blockage related
I am going thru something similar!!! My cat had bladder stones, and a uti we were on vacation when it happened. I at work now but will be writing u more this afternoon. They thought my cat just had the same thing but in the end it was bladder stones which they had to take out surgically last week. He spent a week at the vet. Make sure they x ray to make sure there are no stones in there. ((Hugs)) I know what you are going thru.

Praying for your kitty! One of mine went through something similar when he was only a year old. Thankfully, he is doing wonderfully now!

Upset with vet - Cat blockage related
He's now been diagnosed with bladder stones and has to have surgery to have them removed. I went to visit him tonight and he just looked sooooo sad. I was a mess when I saw him.

Re: Upset with vet - Cat blockage related
I went through that with my cat a few years ago... UTI... Had crystals but thankfully wasn't totally blocked. He went on antibiotics... Finished them and then the freakin crystals came back/were still there! So he had to have another dose and then we put him on special UTI food and he's been on it ever since. No issues anymore.

Harvey is having surgery tomorrow to have the bladder stones removed. We're hoping he'll be able to come home on Saturday. My other cat is so lost without him. :(
Thanks everyone for all your thoughts and prayers.

Going thru this now, when did your cat start to act like himself again?
