Question for Cat Owners (Guest/Allergy related)

I was out last nite, and allergies were on the topic of conversation.

How do you handle a situation in which you are having people over, and someone is very allergic to cats?

do you put the cat in a room where no one will go, say screw it, its my cats house, or any other solution?

I vaccuum the carpet & furniture like a madwoman, spray Febreze anti-allergen all over everything, open the windows if the weather is good, move the air-purifier from the bedroom to the living room and lock up the cats. Most of my friends who are allergic only have really bad reactions if they pet the cats, so they just don't do that.

Re: Question for Cat Owners (Guest/Allergy related)

I'm allergic and I cannot go to a house where a cat lives without having a reaction. All I ask is that people understand that this is not an insult to their cleanliness. Some people understand and we usually make plans to get together elsewhere. Some people do not understand at all.

I vacuum and clean/dust like crazy.
My friends that are allergic won't pet the cat. I have one friend that takes a benadryl before she comes over. She wants to come here and she prepares herself which I think is great because I don't have to drag my son everywhere.
I try to clean as much as I can.

I clean and vacuum. When the person that is allergic comes over I move my cats to their favourite room with some food and a litter pan. It is only for a few hours.

We have a friend who takes an antihistimine before he comes over to our house, it works for him, but I have the feeling it wouldn't work for everyone.

It definitely does not work for everyone. Even 2 doesn't work with my cat allergy. It only makes the difference between not being able to breathe at all and having difficulty breathing. And it does nothing for my eyes sweling up.
