How do you motivate yourself to get back on track again?

So over the summer, I really stopped watching what I ate, and also stopped exercising Chat Icon I have gained about 8-10 pounds. I really want to get it off, but can't get back on track. What do you do to get yourself back, especially eating wise. I knwo the gym will come!

Also. 8-10 is nada! You could drop that in a week or two just by upping water intake and cutting out carbs and processed food. Don't be discouraged! That's really not a lot to lose and you can easily do it!

I think just getting back into the routine will help. I know that we go out a lot in the summer, indulge in drinks, etc., and it's easier to stick to healthy habits in fall/winter for me.

I would just try to plan out what you are going to eat for the week and stick to your meal plan. Go shopping for healthy foods and get rid of things that make you get off track. I would also keep a food journal, at least for a week or two, to get back on track. Writing down what I eat always makes me more cognizant of things like portion sizes and mindless snacking.

Personally, I need to follow some kind of plan to lose weight (WW or calorie counting, and I prefer WW). But I know some people can do it with a looser plan.

I think the key is just to start! I find that I resist doing it, but once I get going, the old habits fall into place and it's easy to keep it up.

Good luck!

I'm an all of nothing! I need to jump right in & get into the routine. Stock up on healthy foods, layout the clothes the night before & make it apart of my day, even if it means 5am, to avoid any later day distractions & excuses. Once my workouts are routine, the eatings follows effortlessly because I hate throwing the early hours & effort away.

Thanks everyone! Maybe my problem is trying to do the diet first and thinking the exercise will follow...I'm going to try it the other way around!

Re: How do you motivate yourself to get back on track again?

I just started again. Added more water, cut my carbs and fat intake and am walking for exercise 30 minutes a day.

I live by Argyle Lake in Babylon, so I've been going there and if the weather is crappy, I'll do the elliptical I have in the house. I'd much rather be outside enjoying the scenery and fresh air so if I have to just do elliptical, it wouldn't last long.

Start small. If you have no time limit on losing the weight (for a special occasion, vacation, etc etc) even a 1 lb. a week goal would be good.

Good Luck!!
