OPWDD (updated please help with form)
Can someone please explain what this is and who is eligible? To hear this service will pay a portion of services like therapeutic horsebackriding and swimming sounds great. Is there any cons? Am I wrong with what I heard?

OPWDD
It's honestly very confusing and there is a ton of paperwork and rules you need to know in order to get services. Basically there are two types, medicaid and non medicaid services. The non medicated services you get about $1000 a year to use on approved services, which could be horseback riding, respite services, etc. The medicaid services is very extensive and you are able to receive alot of money depending on need. I believe with the non medicaid services you need to have an iq below 60 and with medicaid services you need to have significant disabilities or be medically fragile. I am totally oversimplifying what OPWDD can give and what what it does but it is way to extensive to type here. I suggest contacting Parent to Parent and taking one of their online courses to help navigate the system. Their website is http://parenttoparentnys.org/offices/long-island/ and you can also call them. They are very helpful.

Re: OPWDD
Call them. It has nothing to do how much $$ you make. You send in an application and info on your child, such as test scores, evaluations. We are approved to get back 1,000$ for swimming. We didn't get back last year because I was too late in sending in the receits. It is based on funding that year. Call and get moving on it, just to get in the system. It takes a few months to get approved.

Re: OPWDD
I'm waiting for a rep to call me back. Do you know what specific papers they need from the school? Maybe I'll call them while I wait.

IEP and something that shows the results from the adaptive behavior test (Vineland), and the IQ. Those should be on the IEP. Also something with the diagnosis.

Re: OPWDD
Can someone help me with the transmittal form. Section 4 wants you to select the services you want (if eligible) problem is they are just vague to me no description of what it really means or provides.
All I'm looking for is the financial support they will provide if elligibal on services like swimming and horseback riding. As well as camps or programs that are held during hours not in school like on the weekends. What service in section 4 would I select?
I've left messages and haven't gotten a return call for this. Is there anyone on here that have or is using this that can help me?
Thanks!

OPWDD (updated please help with form)
I would say you would want the Family Support Services: 17. Respite 18. Other Family Supports. I would wait to submit though until you speak to someone as you don't want to send in the wrong information.
