Come on in! I have some questions! OPWDD and Static Encepholopathy

We saw Dr. Scherzer when DS was 19 months old. But because we had such a poor experience there, we never went back and I never got a written report. It was suggested by DS' school that I have a copy of his report for our upcoming school board meeting which I finally got a copy of yesterday. Under diagnosis, he has Static Encepholopathy and PDD-NOS. Is Static Encepholopathy standard? Is this something "extra." Of course I googled it and it came up as brain damage and related primarily to FASChat Icon Was wondering if anyone elses DC has this diagnosis along with PDD-NOS or there was something else this "doctor" saw that I was unaware of.

On to my next question....one of the mom's in DS' class told me about all these special services her son just qualified for through OPWDD. She said she gets: "I am able to take him for $2 a session to Just Kids for a Saturday morning respite program. I went there yesterday. It happens 2-3 x a month. It is from 9-1. They provide lunch and everything. It was nice. Sorta laid back and they let the kids do a lot of free play. It is supposed to be a break for them from structure. I think I will keep him in it. There is no commitment, they just want to you to come as much as you can.
There is also reimbursements up to $1000 a year for programs/diapers. I can also have a trained person come to my house for him for babysitting/potty training/go on events with for like nothing to pay. "

She said it was as simple as faxing over her DS's initial diagnosis and the school's pychological report. WTH? Is this ANOTHER thing DS would have been entitled to that I was unaware of?Chat Icon

It's not as simple as faxing that info over. I applied for my son. I had to mail in a bunch of things, fill out a bunch of stuff, and it took months for me to get a response. His IQ ended up being over the requirement (I think they need below 60?). Once they are over the IQ requirement, then they look at their adaptive behavior (Vineland score). My son's last Vineland was done as a pre-schooler, so we had nothing current to give them, so I gave up. I will reapply when the school does another one (at my request). I think someone posted the exact requirements on here a while back. But, you can call the office and they will tell you what you need to do.
