How can I achieve this look?
What tools do I need and how do I do it?

Re: Long Soft Wavy Hair
I've seen lots of girls achieve it using the wand.. I've never tried myself though.

Re: Long Soft Wavy Hair
I use a 1.5" barrel curling wand to get nice big waves. My hair is wavy to begin with, so I let it air dry over night and then use the curling wand in the morning. It's time consuming, but I've tried about every single "trick" on pinterest to get waves without using a curling wand. They work, kinda, but they come out with kinks and frizz. This is the only way that works for me. I'm sure you could do rollers and set them overnight, but rollers are beyond my expertise.

Re: Long Soft Wavy Hair
I use a 1" curling iron & then brush it out. It works really well for my hair (very fine, long, straight hair)

Re: Long Soft Wavy Hair
I have long layers and pretty straight hair and the only way I've achieved this look (not that I tried the wand or rollers) is by putting my damp hair up in a twist for several hours and then letting it down!

Do you guys use any styling products to hold the waves but not make them stiff?

I don't. My hair just never feels quite right with product in it.

That's how I feel too! But I think the waves will just fall out because my hair is heavy.

I use hair spray but run my fingers through it so they dont get hard and crinkly. And I dont spray it before curling I spray it after, if you spray before it can tend to get hard and crinkly and then you dont get soft waves.

You MUST invest in a curling wand. I recently purchased it and just curl my hair around if for a few seconds, then pull the wand out, let it cool down for maybe like 3 seconds and let go. Once i'm done doing the whole head, I flip upside down to just separate the curls a big and it holds for the entire day. HUGE DIFFERENCE between a wand and a regular curling iron, don't ask me why. I was never able to achieve these results with a curling iron so the wand is the way to go. No hair product required.

So I borrowed my sisters curling wand. Let me just say that I have a hair styling disability! lolol
I probably should practice more but I don't have the patience.

Re: Long Soft Wavy Hair
I actually use my flat iron to make waves in my hair. Checkout YouTube, I'm sure they have lots of tutorials.

Re: Long Soft Wavy Hair
I use the big hot rollers, then brush it and use some flexible hairspray.
