Switching schools mid-year
Does anyone have any stories about switching schools mid year for a young child (first grade)?
A house is available in the same district but different school. DC would have to change before/after care programs too.
Any advice is appreciated.

I think at that age it isn't that big of a deal. I would probably wait until after a school break so he can prepare and start fresh.

Switching schools mid-year
We switched DS to a diff school in January last year. 1st grade also. After Sandy f'ed with the school year (we are in Long Beach). Frankly, it was a disaster. He was super pissed at us, and acted out all year. Our DS is super stubborn. Maybe if yours is easier going you will have a less hard time?

Would it be possible to stay in the same school until the end of the school year since you are in the same district ? I know my district has been flexible with situations like yours.

Re: Switching schools mid-year
Since it's the same district, do you know if they would make an exception? You may need to drive a little farther but it might be worth it to keep DC in the same school for the whole year.
I think it's easier for younger kids to fit in when you make a switch in the middle of the year. I remember switching schools after Christmas break, I had a tougher time because I was going in 7th grade and all the kids knew each other since elementary school. My brother was in 2nd grade and he had no issues with the transition.

I won't switch my DS in the middle of the school year even thought it would be SO much easier for both of us

Re: Switching schools mid-year
I switched schools in the middle of a school year a few times growing up and it was really not a big deal at a for me.
Sure it's not ideal, but it is so hard to time home shopping to just the summer.

Re: Switching schools mid-year
My son started Kindergarten and had SUCH a hard time- cried for like the 1st month of school and since we were already in contract for a house in another district, I was a nervous wreck!
We made the switch over right after the holidays- I expected the crying and everything all over again- maybe even worse and guess what? He did GREAT!
Actually, on his 1st day he volunteered to take another kid to the nurse (the teacher and I laughed- considering he was the new kid- who knew NO ONE and had no clue where the nurses office even was!)
I stayed positive the whole time, and never once let me child sense my anxiety!
He doesn't remember ever going to another school now (3rd grade!)

Switching schools mid-year
My son isn't school age yet but I was in 4 different elementary schools in 5 years. Each and every move was tough.
IMO if you can avoid it def do.
