Need jewelry help....

Hey everyone.

I own almost no nice jewelry. I have my wedding band in white gold, my engagement ring (which DH bought a second one for me after my first went missing years ago). It's also in white gold. Both have sapphires.

I have a gold necklace that was my grandmas, and a diamond pendant necklace I won on LIF.

That's it. I have nice costume jewelry, but as for "fine " jewelry, I'm limited.

My stepmom wants to get me something nice for my 40th birthday. She has pancreatic cancer. She always said we'd go away for my 40th, but now we can't. She suggested a nice piece of jewelry.

She has a jeweler, and she suggested I look around and see if I like something that he could make.

I would like to get something in platinum and with diamonds. I own almost nothing with diamonds.

Here's the thing.... I have worn the same pave diamond earrings since my wedding day. I switch them out for hoops or dangling costume jewelry earrings. I own almost no bracelets at all. I gave that diamond pendant necklace.

I'm torn what to look for. I don't even know where to begin. I don't know anything about good jewelry.

Should I get an earring and necklace set?

Where could I look for ideas?

I love simple and classy. And since it's rare I'll be getting nice jewelry too often, something that I can have forever, pass in to a daughter in law so eBay, etc...

I Like Tiffany kind of stuff. Should I just ask for something from there? Tiffany and Cartier are the only real jewelry stores I know of.

Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!!!

Studs were the 1st thing I thought of.

Re: Need jewelry help....

I rarely switch out my earrings, so they'd either have to be casual enough for everyday or really fancy for events.

I like necklaces the most out of all jewelry I find...

I would take a look on Tiffany's website.
They have some beautiful necklaces.
Don't know the price range you're looking in but they have everything from $200 and up.

I would go to London Jewelers and look around. Since she has someone that is a Jeweler she might hesitate against Tiffanys. I would look for general ideas.

I like simple quality things, so a nice necklace with a clasp that you can easily add pieces to would be nice. I would go for a diamond solitaire pendant on a gold chain. Then you can add or take off other things onto the chain - i.e. a heart, star, cross, infinity, peace, initial, etc.

We bought my MIL a key pendent last Christmas and it looks beautiful. It wasn't tiffany's but it was still expensive.

I would print out a picture of one you like and see if you can have it made and maybe add sapphires to it, since it seems you like them.

A nice solitaire diamond necklace in a halo setting.

Look at Bluenile for ideas too.

I would probably give her a general idea of what I want: necklace, something classic, with some diamond detail, then I would ask her to use her judgement to pick something out for me. That way she can use her jeweler and keep it in the price range she wants. Plus, it will have a little bit of both of your styles in it.

Re: Need jewelry help....

I vote diamond studs. LOVE them. Maybe a tiffany-esque shape, like an asscher (sp) cut?

Re: Need jewelry help....

I agree with diamond studs. They are timeless and go with everything.

I never take mine off.
