stainless steel kitchen appliances
we will be remodeling our kitchen and DH loves the look of stainless steel and is pretty opposed to anything else.
as much as i like the look, i am concerned with fingerprints on the appliances. we will have 2 small kids so my concern is them touching everything and leaving a mess. as much as we try to keep the house clean, wiping down the refrigerator door and oven etc once a week really isnt realistic with a newborn and 15 month old.
im totally fine going with black or even white appliances but need to convince dh.
does anyone have a problem with their ss appliances? should i not worry about it and just go for the ss appliances?

I don't find them particularly hard to keep clean. I use the special stainless steel cleaners.

The cheapest and easiest way to clean them is Pledge spray (any wood/dust cleaner will do) and so much cheaper than the SS cleaner they try and get you to buy. However I was always wiping the fridge down from hand prints and kid smears.

We have it and we just wipe down the fridge every two weeks with stainless steel cleaner. Very easy.

We have them and I love the look. HATE the fingerprints. I have 3 kids and it is a mess!
They make something now that looks like stainless steel but is smudge proof. Can't remember the name!

We have stainless and I think they are definitely harder to keep clean, but as long as you clean them regularly it should be ok. One thing I hate though is that the fridge isn't magnetic. Maybe it's just mine (I think it's an LG) but I used to put a lot of stuff on the fridge and now I can't

i told DH it must be magnetic - he thought i was crazy
someone told me that a lot of them are now magnetic - i plan on testing it before i buy one though

We have SS and yes, it requires much more maintenance. I love the look too, but you will definitely be cleaning/wiping down your appliances a lot more often. It's pretty much impossible not to get fingerprints on it constantly. Also, my fridge has a couple of light scratches from DS' toys that don't come out.
I have a Frigidaire refrigerator and it is magnetic but my parents have a Kenmore and it is NOT. Definitely make sure you test it at the store!

I have SS that is smudge proof and magnetic.
The only part that gets prints is the handle but only in one strip so you really can see it.

FRIGIDAIRE! I loved the look of stainless but HATE the fingerprints. It looks terribly dirty and I didn't want that. Frigidaire makes the smudgeproof stainless AND you hang magnets on it. LOVE IT!!

I have the same and there are no prints but the scratches on it are horrible. I hate them and wish I had gotten something else. And this was a problem I had before I had kids.

I remove scratching from SS surfaces and appliances. On the refrigerators I restore I put a sealer on the doors that doesn't let the oils from hands penetrate into the stainless. Stainless has pores and the sealer has a reaction with the SS at the molecular level making it a lot easier to clean. It's a nano technology. The better grades of SS are not magnetic and they shouldn't be.
The smudge proof refrigerators that are mentioned are usually not SS but a metal with a clear coat on it that makes it look like SS. The down side to this type of refrigerator is that when it gets scratched it is unable to be repaired. You would have to replace the doors. On real SS I can remove scratches, scuff marks and stains. Just know that many are not magnetic so if you like to keep things on your fridge you might not be able to do so. I don't find it hard to keep mine clean and they sell smudge proof stainless steel too. There are lots of options now.

The new stainless steel look they came out with is called slate. It is gorgeous! And I think it is fingerprint proof. I saw it at Home Depot but I can't remember the brand.
ETA - I just googled it... GE is the brand. Take a look if you want. I wish I needed a new fridge and dishwasher... I would totally be getting it.

This is the brand I have and love it. It really is smudge-proof. I never get finger prints.

Love the way they look but I clean them daily because of fingerprints, water marks, etc. It's kind of a pain but I still love them over black, bisque, or white appliances.
