to enter or not? (5K related)
A friend of mine wants me to do the color run with her on May 31st.
I haven't done a 3 mile run since high school - 15 years ago!
As far as I remember, 3 miles (so almost the whole run) is 12 times around the track by my house. i have 24 weeks, or 1/2 lap per week to manage it. I can maybe do 1/4 lap right now (and that's pushing it) I am about 90 lbs overweight. i'm not even sure if i can walk 3 miles without resting.
when i asked DH he said it's doable but he has no intention of helping me out or making any comments. "i support you but i'm not saying anything cause you'll get mad at me"
what do you think? given my total sedentary lifestyle and what i consider not much support from DH is it possible to do 5k on may 31st? how do i go about even starting?
TIA!

yes yes yes!!!!
for a lot of reasons!
1. a color run is not a hard-core competitive type run. they are designed to have FUN... so if you walk/jog/run it will be ok. a lot of people will be having a lot of fun with all of the colored cornstarch they toss your way... MAKE SURE YOU WEAR GLASSES/GOGGLES.
2. the time between december and the end of may is definitely enough time to train for a 5k
3. c25k is a great program that will help you make the slow progress needed. it's about an 8 or 9 week program. you can gently go through it and then spend the rest of the time between now and the race improving your technique and/or improving your speed.
4. THERE IS NO SHAME IN WALKING. i follow the jeff galloway method of run-walk-run. i went from a TOTAL couch potato to running a marathon in about 14-15 months. IF I CAN DO IT, BY GOD, YOU'LL BE ABLE TO ROCK IT!!
5. push your boundaries! you WON'T regret it. you'll never know how far you can go until you go.

Of course you can run it. Follow the C25k plan. It slowly builds to 3 miles. You will be fine. Trust me you don't need a certain body type to run. I firmly believe anyone can run if they put in the time. So much of running is mental anyway.
Good luck!

Agree.
The color run is more of a fun event than a real race. It's a great run, lots of fun, not even timed. You can do it!!
