which light fixture?
I have a living room with a central light fixture. The room is ~16'x16', and DH and I are debating whether to put a flushmount fixture vs. a chandelier (a coffee table would go underneath). What are your thoughts?

I just bought the second one for my dining room. I love it. I think the light fixture needs to coordinate with the rest of your decor. How is the room furnished?

How high are the ceilings/how low does the chandelier hang? Under a big dining table, there doesn't need to be clearance for someone to walk, necessarily, but under a coffee table, there should be.

Re: which light fixture?
Since it's a living room, I would go with the flush, or near-flush mount. Unless you have 10' ceilings, I would stay away from chandeliers in the living room. Even though you have a coffee table under it, it will probably get moved around if you have a lot of guests over, and then people have to watch their heads when moving around.

Love the 2nd one. But it's really hard to tell without seeing the room.
I just did a google search of living rooms with chandeliers and they look gorgeous. But you really need the height.

Re: which light fixture?
What style of house do you have? Is your living room formal?
I typically only like chandeliers in entry ways, dining rooms, and bedrooms (sometimes).
If you have a great room style living room and have high ceilings, I think a chandelier could work, but only if it's a more formal area. If it's more casual living space, I've seen nice ceiling fans work, too. That's a more casual, cottage/rustic feel, imo.
If you don't have high or vaulted ceilings, would you consider high hats? We have a formal living room at the front of the house, which faces north and doesn't get much natural light. So we wanted something more than lamp lighting, and put in high hats on a dimmer. It wasn't super expensive to do.
ETA - I think the flush mounted fixture -- while nice -- may be dwarfed in a big room. I typically think of them for smaller spaces (hallways, bathrooms, bedrooms).
