window treatments for a large window. ETA Picture
We are redoing our living room and I am at a loss on what to do with our big window. Its actual 2 regular windows with a large picture window in the middle. So the whole think is about 9 feet long!
We have silhouette shades on them and right now I have a valance but I am bored!!!
Any ideas? Do i need to have something across the top? will it look silly with just curtains hanging on either side?
PS, our sofa sits in front of this window
Eta....don't mind the sofa, tables etc....they are all going!!
wanted to add, I am doing hte walls a shaker beige and a new sofa in some brown tone...haven't picked it yet! Image Attachment(s):

I have the same type of setup 10 ft wide and just about 7 ft high. I got a long double rod to treat the window as one. 2 White voile sheers for the back rod on each side & 2 sets of good substantial drape panels for each side. I think this always will look great as long as you get an adequate amount of panels (ie not be stingy ). I didn't want to block off my Window/view with blinds so the sheers are a good compromise for privacy with sunlight! Also my panels are the room darkening/ keep warmth in type so we swoop them closed at night.

I would love to see what you come up with. We have curtains I don't like with many separate panels.

what length sheers do you use. Ones that got to the sil or to the floor? and if you just use panels what is across the middle of the front rod.

84" for sheers and panels. They just hit the floor. When home we usually keep everything completely to each side so we can see out. If we want privacy for whatever reason we close the sheers and/or panels. But I will add that my house is very set back on my block has barely and car/ppl traffic if otherwise I probably wouldn't want ppl looking into my house. I added a pic in my album, not the best though.

If you planning to center the sofa under the window I would keep the shades and add some long panels to frame the sofa. if you like the valance keep it and just get panels that coordinate. If the new sofa will be off center I would stick to a valance or other top treatment and the shades.

Thanks! THe shades are staying no matter what we put on the window. Not sure what will happen with the couch yet, until we pick a new one. Right now we have a sectional but havent picked anything new out yet so we will see.
I think I am going to try just panels I want the more dramatic pop of color. Plus I have had that same valance up there since we moved in 7 years ago, time for a change!!!

Re: window treatments for a large window. ETA Picture
I have a very wide window too, a picture window with a casement on either side. Sheers to the windowsill and then panels on each side. Pull down shade as well. No top valence - I think that "weighs" down my window. So that I don't block the side windows, I have the panels covering part of the wall (just extended the rod over the bracket).
