Texas Ranch Wedding

My brother is getting married in November on a Texas Ranch. It's not a working Ranch. It's been redone so they can rent it out for weddings.

My feeling is to just dress as I would for a NY wedding. My brother says there will be a lot of cowboy boots.

My mom wants to wear cowboy boots and a very toned done dress as MOG. I think she is nuts. She is MOG!!

I am the sister of the groom and want to do it up.

What are your feelings? If I go the "Texas route"... what the heck should I wear? What about my Mom? The dresses she is showing me, IMO are not ok.

I would wear boots if esp. if he is saying alot of people will be wearing.
If you have time when you get there, get your boots. They are the best out there.

I just looked on Pinterest.

I did see alot of short dresses with boots in pics. Just depends on what you are comfortable with.

I'm telling you right now, you will look like you're dressed for the Opera if you go dressed for a typical NY wedding. You will feel so out of place and uncomfortable!

I would wear a cute fit & flare /"Skater" dress with a really pretty pair of cowboy boots.

What are the bride & groom wearing? You & MOG shouldn't be fancier than the bride. Is she going with a traditional gown?

I don't know if I would wear cowboy boots myself, b/c I don't think they would be flattering on me & I don't think I would wear them again.

I hate cowboots and would never were them per se, but for this event I might do something more casual but skip the boots - like, I'd wear espadrilles.

The bride.. I am not sure. She is going to Mexico to buy a dress. I have no idea what that means in terms of style.

I assume my brother will be in a tux. Maybe I shouldn't assume that?!

What is a skater dress?

I have a pair of cute cowboy boots but, they kill my feet so I never wear them. I suppose I could suffer through the day in them.

I do remember going to a wedding in MO and I was dressed VERY casual and still was dressed up more than most guests. They came in sundresses and flip flops. The bridal party was dressed like we would in NY but, the dresses were not altered.

I have to get my head around NOT dressing up. It's hard because it's my brothers wedding. Every instinct tells me to dress up for such an awesome family affair.

I keep gravitating towards black dresses but, I also think wearing black to a wedding is a NY thing. I feel like everyone will think I am dressed like I am going to a funeral.

To put things in perspective my brother posted a pic of him at a friends wedding and he was in kakhi pants and a plaid shirt. smh... ahhhh he is killing me.

I have been to more casual weddings--they are fun, too--It feels more normal if to be dressed down if they are during the day & outside.

as the sister of the groom, you it is probably ok to be dressier than most guests, but that is still probably more casual than what you are used to.

You can still get your hair & makeup done if you want to.

I have been googling ranch wedding pictures and they do vary in styles.

I would post on the Texas board for the Knot and ask the girls over there for advice. I am sure they would be happy to help point you in the right direction.

Someone I ride the train with just went to her sons wedding on ranch in Montana.
She wore boots and a dress. I didn't see pics but she said everyone was wearing boots.

If you like western boots and need to buy low ones, I got a 2 pairs at Free People recently.

Am I the only one who HATES the dresses w/boots thing? I get that its regional, but I just don't like it. Maybe its b/c I hate country music so much

I'm not a fan either.
I think it's because I hate cowboy boots in general.
I had a pair in like 1989 or 90 because that was the style then. But now, no way.

I used to have a denim shirt in 1992 w/boots on it b/c I bought after I saw Lista Tuttle wearing it on Saved by the Bell.

Ugh this is tough.

I'd probably bring several dresses with me and decide once I got there.

Pack the boots too but also bring the shoes you would normally wear.
