Rachael Ray 30 Minute Meals

I know a lot of people don't like Rachael Ray, but having an easy 30 minute meal is very helpful now with a toddler. There have been a few of these RR 30 minute meals that DH and I have just LOVED! So a few of the ones we like were in the same cookbook. So I bought it and decided that I would go cover to cover, kind of Julie and Julia style. That way I don't need to decide what is for dinner- the book tells me and I can count on them being do-able in a shorter time frame. So far we've liked about 15 of the first 50 recipes. Although that leaves about 35 we didn't like. Chat Icon
At least it's an adventure. Has anyone else ever taken on a project like this? How did it turn out for you? Any cookbooks you have liked almost all of the recipes in? Most cookbooks I've barely tried the recipes in it. So if I ever finish this RR one, maybe I will start with another one.

That's awesome you're doing this!!!

I haven't tried any Rachel Ray recipes because I'm not a huge fan of the flavors in her cooking, etc.

But, I bought Ina Garten's / Barefoot contessa books a few weeks ago and am thinking of doing a similar thing that Julie and Julia did. I love almost all her things and love watching her on TV.

How are you keeping track of things you make or revisions, etc?

Re: Rachael Ray 30 Minute Meals

I print out recipes from different websites.
Those that we like go into a plastic sleeve grouped by food type (meat, fish, chicken, salads, veggies, sides etc) and then into a magazine holder I keep in my kitchen.
If I know I will never make it again, the recipe gets tossed.

I have tons of cookbooks, pretty much an entire bookshelf's worth that I have been collecting since the 80's.

I've always wanted to do a complete cookbook though, but there is so much that DH doesn't eat.

I've been going in order. But I'd probably use post-it notes if I didn't. Then I write in the cookbook. I don't care about messing it up too much. Next to the title I make a check mark or an X, for if I want to make it again or not. If it's blank it means I haven't tried it yet. If you don't want to do that, I've seen people do it in the back index. They make notes only on the index pages. For revisions I just make a small x next to the ingredient if I want to leave it out. If I think it should have added certain ingredients, I write them in on the side, like a second list of what I want in there. and if something needs to be more or less, I just write it down so I don't forget.

My hope is that one day, I will take all of my favorite recipes from all of these different books, websites, magazines and my family and friends- tweaked to the way me and my family prefers them of course- and create my own hardcover cookbook to pass down to my daughter! It seems a little out of reach at the moment- but maybe when I have empty nest syndrome in 17 years this project could get me through it.

I like the Ina Garten cookbooks. I've never tried a recipe of hers that I didn't like. I'm on the hunt for the America's Test Kitchen cookbook. I got it for my MIL for christmas and it looked awesome. It's pretty huge though!

I just saw an episode last night where she made baked fried chicken with sour cream mashed potatoes - I was in heaven. Need to try that out. But agreed, all her recipes so far have never failed me.

we basically only cook out of Americas Test Kitchen. We love it. we have several. Some are very intensive and they don't give how long it will take. We have the red one, cooking for 2 and light and healthy 2010, and 2011. We really have learned a lot from these books. Plus we subscribe to their magazine.

WHo are Julia and Julie?

It was a movie based on a blog about a girl Julie, who cooked all the recipes in one of Julia child's cookbook.

Rachael Ray 30 Minute Meals

I have thought about it! But there are always recipes I know I wouldn't like or are too complicated (that I wouldn't have time to make!) For Christmas my mom gave me a cookbook of recipes from the church my parents attended for many years, before they moved. So I am making recipes from there... but not every one! :))

Re: Rachael Ray 30 Minute Meals

Im always hesitant to try Rachel Ray recipes. Whenever I look at the number of ingredients, I figure prep alone will take me 30 minutes. Have you found this to be the case, or no? Otherwise most people I know that make her recipes have enjoyed them! I just don't like to do meals that take forever to prep - at least not during the week.

Her meals are still the quickest to make in my opinion. Based on the variety of recipes I have. In some cases, yes, prep does take a lot of time. But in MOST cases, (at least my favorite recipes of hers) are usually 30 minutes with prep and cooking. Sometimes it can be like 45 minutes top for prep, cooking and clean up. It all varies.
