we are staining our first floor and stairs dark walnut. We are leaving the bedroom sanded and poly not stained.

Here my question...Do we stain the hallway outside the bedrooms or leave just sanded and poly? My husband said no beside then we would have to install saddle on every entrance to the bedrooms. I think it would look funny when you get to the top of the stairs and the stain stops. What do you think?? Anyone have any pics ??

I'd stain too
Looks better with doors open, like one uniform piece

Personally I like the look of everything being the same. Our entire house has the same wood floor and color running through it
But if doing the bedrooms the same as the floor in hallways is not in the cards,I'd still vote for making the hallway and steps the same color

If I do that I'll need a saddle in between the rooms.. Do u think it would look OK... I would stain it the same color as the hallway

I like consistency so I would stain everything including the bedrooms. IMO the wood color should be the same throughout the whole house.

we stained everything. it was on accident really. when we got the job quoted and planned, we were planning on staining the downstairs, the stair treads and leaving the hall and upstairs unstained....

fast forward to when the guys were doing the work, there was a miscommunication between the owner/guy who quoted the job, and the son, guy who lead the crew. They bought stain for the whole house and stained the floors. Owner let me know and asked if that was OK. It cost him a little more to do the staining. He was hinting to try and get more $$ out of me I think too, but I didn't bite

Either or, it looks nice all stained. that would be my first vote. if not, stain the stairs and downstairs and leave all and everything else unstained.
