purchasing manager?
Just spoke to my boss, and they are looking for a new purchasing manager. Somehow, over lunch, they decided I was an excellent candidate! So they offered me the position. I am completely unsure of what to do so hoping someone here can help!
My background: I have a BA in Psychology and MS in organizational behavior with a concentration in hr management.
So far, in this company I am working as the office manager/personal assistant/AP/AR/bookkeeper.
My questions:
What exactly does a purchasing manager do? What is the annual salary range? What is the job market like in ny and outside of ny? (in case i lose my job and need to find a new one) Will this be a step down for me? Am i overqualified due to my educational background?
I am very lost on what to do and any advice would be appreciated!

sorry for the late response!
So the company i work for buys internet companies. the only thing they have in common is they are niche markets.
i know for now i would be purchasing for two of them: one half of one sells coffee, tea, smoothie drinks and powders and mixes and such. the other half sells puzzles and games. (they also have some smaller ones under that one that sells stuffed toys, banners, etc)
the second company sells die-cast cars and i know they will be expanding into die cast trains, planes, etc.
in the future, the inventory will depend on the company they buy...

Re: purchasing manager?
Is this in addition to your other responsibilities? I think adding new skills is always a good thing as long as it doesn't become too overwhelming. I can see this being the type of position where you might need to stay on top of people for receipts and such but I could be wrong.
