Dog adoption home visit

So, what do they do during a home visit? Look for potential dangers for the dog? Check out the yard? We have a 6ft pvc fence all around our property. Do I have to remove all of the toys from my living room or just the ones small enough for the dog to eat? We keep most of them in plastic tubs, so they aren't all over the place.

Any advice is appreciated!

For ours, they just looked around the house quick, looked at the yard. Looked to make sure we didn't have screened doors or low windows where the dog could jump out. I think for the most part they just want to check that you don't have other dogs (or any animals for that matter) that you didn't tell them about, to ensure you're not an animal hoarder or someone that wants the dog for any other purpose than to be a family pet. I wouldn't worry too much about the toys on the floor! Good luck!

Re: Dog adoption home visit

My mom occasionally does home visits with a pug rescue she volunteers for. She said they look for:

- a fenced in yard and they will check the fence for any openings
- if the house is messy, meaning any small things the dog could choke on (I'd put the small toys away)
- if you have pets, how you interact with those pets

Dog adoption home visit

i think safety in general- if you have wires hanging & holes in your walls.... you may not get approved.

Our house is still baby proofed, so no wires exposed and all outlets not used are covered.

She's coming tomorrow. Fingers are crossed!
