Tax question

Has anyone claimed infertility stuff? Also do we have to tell our account what exactly the medical bills are for? Ugh I hate sharing my business.

Tax question

We did. It has to be 10% of your income. Used to be 7%. We had receipts, but he never asked what it was for.

Exactly. I've deducted for other medical stuff in the past, and the tax preparer never asked for any details. I just told him that I had medical expenses.

Also, I was told that you can include prescription co-pays (besides the ones for IF), as well as HPTs, etc. in the medical expenses. I'm not a tax expert, though, so you may want to have those figures available, but just double check with your accountant or tax preparer.

I claimed it last year and will do so again this year. You can deduct travel to/from appointments (mileage, tolls, parking) in addition to copays, drug costs, etc.

Re: Tax question

We did. Didn't get much back bc the ACA rules changed the deduction from 7% to 10%. So anything over 10% of your income can be claimed. So we pretty much got screwed bc we make "too much money" for it be a real difference. Mind you we paid over 20k in medical bill including our IVF. Needless to say I was cursing the ACA in my accountants office lol

Boo but YAY to making $. We aren't going to be able to claim anything either. If we ever have to pay fully OOP which I will after this IVF then I probably can claim something.

Re: Tax question

A friend of mine claimed all of her infertility expenses I didn't even try because my uncle does my taxes and I don't need my extended family knowing what I'm going through!

Tax question

We did. I had receipts, but my accountant just asked for a total. I was disappointed it didn't change our refund much at all.
