Poll: Which progesterone method??
My RE is giving me the choice of suppositories or shots for progesterone for my first fresh IVF cycle. What would you do??
I am leaning towards the shot.

I only ever did the shot. Although I most definitely did not enjoy it I know it did a great job.

I've done both, made no difference to me either way. Both are annoying

Poll: Which progesterone method??
I used crinone for my last cycle. When I had my first beta, my progesterone came back at 5.2, which is low. The RE said that the crinone just doesn't show up in the bloodwork.
I wound up losing the pregnancy very early. The doctor said it is likely that the progesterone was low because it was not a viable pregnancy, not the other way around. For my own peace of mind, I'm going to do PIO for the next round.

Re: Poll: Which progesterone method??
I have only done endometrin. Its messy and I read it does not fully show up in bloodwork, so its hard to monitor your levels as closely. But, I heard PIO can be painful so I would prefer to do the suppositories.

Poll: Which progesterone method??
I am doing both now ... together ... and I would rather take 2 shots every than use the supps. Way too messy and gross.

Re: Poll: Which progesterone method??
I did the suppositories, which were okay. Messy but nothing too crazy. I guess it would depend if the doctor felt like I needed to do the injections, then I would. If I had to choose (and was told there was no difference) between the two, I'd choose suppositories.

Re: Poll: Which progesterone method??
I've done both and prefer PIO. TMI, but the crinone was gross to "dig out". The PIO was not as bad as I had imagined. In the 6 weeks I took it, only once did I experience any pain from it, but I am 99% sure my DH hit a nerve with the needle.

I'd do PIO because it shows up in your b/w so you will know that your progesterone is high enough.

Re: Poll: Which progesterone method??
I used endometrin with DD and again with this pregnancy. My progesterone levels were always quite high, so it must have been detectable in my blood. After all of the stim injections, I was not remotely interested in using my butt as a pin cushion.
ETA: If you have a choice, I'd choose endometrin over crinone any day.

Suppositories are not shown in blood, so PIO is better if you have low prog in order to be monitored. The bfp that stuck was when I used pio for 12 weeks.

Your prog levels must have been high to begin with. Endometrium literally attaches to uterine wAll and is not in blood line.

ITA. Also, when you're stimming you tend to have higher progesterone naturally because of the increased number of follies.

I am on the suppositories now, I've never done the injections. Besides being messy, they are not that bad. I would ask the dr. what they prefer.

Poll: Which progesterone method??
I only used Crinone. Was messy but as others said, not that bad. I was on twice a day dose with my FET which was the cycle that worked.
ETA: eventho the levels were lower they were always in the range they wanted them. maybe go w/injection if u do have an issue w/progest levels?

Re: Poll: Which progesterone method??
I would use PIO just because i'd be paranoid about my progesterone levels. Good luck!

PIO is less messy and it worked better for me keeping up my progesterone.

Re: Poll: Which progesterone method??
PIO is torture IMO. I was in horrible pain....especially if you have to do it for several weeks. I walked like a penguin, had welts and bruises on my ass and was in constant pain. I would take the suppositories any day.

PIO is a pain in the a$$ (pun intended) but I would still pick it over the suppositories.

Thanks for your input ladies. I am thinking I will start with the shots. And if it is too much I will ask to switch.
ugh...I wish I didn't even have to decide!!!!

I've given myself PIO left handed, its not so bad. You do it for 12 weeks, deal with the lumps and you're done!

Poll: Which progesterone method??
I have done them all: Endometrin for IUIs, Crinone for fresh IVFs, and PIO for a FET. My new RE is gonna have me do PIO and some progesterone/estrogen mix suppositories (I never used these they seem odd to insert and are like a compound) for this fresh IVF. Out of all the things I did I "liked" Crinone the best. I had a chemical with Crinone and with PIO so for me it didn't make too much of a difference.
I am dreading PIO and double whammy with doing a suppository too.

Just so you know, if you start on the shots, I am pretty sure you must continue with them for the duration. At least that is what I was told. It really is not bad at all. i am on them now, only very minor discomfort. I have used endometrin and done PIO and I requested PIO. I find it much easier and my progesterone levels have always been steady on it.
