Need a lock for my gate

My fence is old wood and there's no latch on it. last time i watched my parents dog, he got out through the fence...luckily a neighbor grabbed him. i'm watching him again next week and we need to lock these gates. is there something i can put on it? i'm afraid the wood will just crack.

What if you bungee cord it together?

we have something like that now, but i'm afraid the dog can push through it.

Just go to Home Depot and see if something looks good. I am not sure based on your concerns about the wood splitting.

When we built our gate we just purchased a lock from Home Depot. They have a big selection.

Re: Need a lock for my gate

How does the gate stay closed now? Latches/locks are various in size and configuration at HD. I'm sure you can find something that works for you fairly cheap at HD. I've used several varieties, depending on what I wanted to accomplish. There's the very simple slide lock, similar to a lot of bathroom stall doors. There are various latches that can be opened from either side of the gate (the slide lock can't be opened from the opposite side).
