Dog essentials?
We are hopefully bringing home our dog this weekend. It's been about 6 years since I had a dog, so refresh my memory what are the basics that I need to get before he comes home?
We have a crate, flea/tick stuff, gate. Also plan to get some toys, food, food/water bowls. What am I missing?
eta: also have a collar, tag and leash already.

Re: Dog essentials?
A few snacks on top of the food, a bed (we didn't keep his bed in the crate in the beginning, but used some towels because he wasn't trained at first), but the bed was used when he was on the outside.
It sounds like you have all the basics covered - congratulations!!!

Thanks! He is house trained, but does that translate to any house or will we have to re-train him once he is at our home? He's 7 months old.
We got my only other dog as a 10 week old puppy, so we trained him from the start. Not sure how you go about it with a pre-trained puppy.
We were undecided about whether to get a bed for inside the crate or put it outside.

Re: Dog essentials?
We rescued a 7 month old puppy a few months ago. He was housetrained and supposidely crate trained. Turns out he absolutely HATES the crate, so we ended up spending so much money on the crate and pad for nothing.
Sounds like you have all the essentials. I would wait on buying the bed for the crate until after the dog is home with you for a few days. See how he is with the crate first.

Re: Dog essentials?
Our second dog was 2 when she got her.
She was also crated with her previous owner and house trained.
She did have a few accidents in the beginning. Only because I think she had to get used to our schedule. But maybe that lasted a week or two the most.
I have to say with her, she never went back in the crate even though we had it there for her.
Love her so much.

How exciting! Best of luck. My dogs fav toys are VIP. Tuffy brand stuffed animals. They're impossible to destroy.
