Outdoor furniture with cushions
I am on a hunt for a nice patio sofa set. Been looking online on ebay and Amazon as well as stores. Anyway, right now we have two chairs on the top deck we have cushions on that I take in during the week. My parents have a whole set that they only put the cushions out when they have company or they just take out a couple for themselves when they sit outside. The cushions are in perfect condition and they're a few years old. IF you have cushions outside do you leave it out all summer long (or winter too) or do you put it away when not in use?
If you leave it out all the time is it still in great condition? Color is still good and bright? Thanks!

Re: Outdoor furniture with cushions
I can't speak from experience but my parents bring their cushions in all the time, unless they're using the chairs. You never know if it will rain and that will just destroy the cushions.

Re: Outdoor furniture with cushions
We bought higher end outdoor furniture the summer of 2009. First year or so, we were very careful, brought the cushions in when it rained, etc. We would put them in the garage. Then we got lazy and left them out pretty much all of the time. The cushions are definitely showing wear and tear now. They were brightly colored and now are definitely faded to the point that I'd love to replace them. They are useable and not totally horrible looking, but I wish we had taken some more care to keep them in good shape.
It became a total pita to bring them in and out. It just wasn't realistic for us. But that said, I wish I had not gotten such expensive furniture. Next time, I will go to BJ's or something. My BIL and SIL just got a really nice-looking (but very reasonable) set for their front porch at Big Lots (I think that's what it's called). That's what I will probably do when I eventually replace mine.

Re: Outdoor furniture with cushions
We have a sectional on our covered back porch with sunbrella cushions. We took them in over the winter and kept them in boxes in the basement. I would have liked to keep them out all year because there were a few nice mornings where we could have sat out (covered porch and we get full sun in the morning) but our neighbors also have cats who find there way up there and leave us to find their cat hair, so we figured best to put them away. I would like to get a cover for the set so we could leave them out.

Outdoor furniture with cushions
We've had our set about 4 years and it's under a gazebo. We leave them out all summer. We are looking to replace them since they've faded.

Re: Outdoor furniture with cushions
What about getting some deck storage boxes and store the cushions in there? My parents just bought a really nice wicker set with removable cushions, and they store them in these

Re: Outdoor furniture with cushions
We store our cushions in Suncast storage boxes during the warmer months or under furniture covers (depending on the piece of furniture) and for winter we store them in large nylon totes in our shed.
I just feel like they get too beat up if they're left out to the elements. I hate when birds poop on our cushions. There was one night after a party we opted not to cover our sofas and I went out to find raccoon poop on them the next morning. Fortunately it was easy enough to treat and clean and there wasn't a lot of it, but I was skeeved.

Re: Outdoor furniture with cushions
We have a set from Costco. For the couches we usually bring the cushions in and store them in the garage or shed especially if we aren't going to be around or using the backyard for a few days (we do get lazy and forget sometimes).
For the lounge chairs we have covers and they get covered every night.
In the winter the cushions are brought in and the furniture gets shrinkwrapped so it can stay outside.

Outdoor furniture with cushions
We leave ours out all summer but they are under an awning so they are not in direct sun or rain. We only take them in for the winter. We just bought them last summer but they look like new.

We have our set since 2008 and always bring the cushions in and out, never leave them out overnight and they are in pristine condition.
It is a huge PITA to bring them out, but we always find that our families who are over for a BBQ won't leave until our house is cleaned up and we all help bringing the cushions in. When you have 5-6 people bringing them in its a pretty quick cleanup

Re: Outdoor furniture with cushions
We have a deck box for the dining chair cushions and then have covers for the other furniture we have.
Our love seats are from HD. The dining table set us from Fourtnoffs backyard store.
I have seen sofa sets at Costco. I would wait until the end of the season and get what I want instead of skimping on quality.

Re: Outdoor furniture with cushions
Cushins are a pain because they need to be put away when not in use. Otherwise the rain, sun, wind, etc will damage them.
