Craigslist & Free Soil
Has anyone ever picked up free soil on craigslist? What about the companies that offer to dump the soil for you? We're taking out our driveway and will need to fill it and I think this might be the cheaper route, but would love some BT advice.

Craigslist & Free Soil
generally free soil on craigslist is junk soil or "fill" might be fine for a bottom layer, but probably not good topsoil to grow grass

Be very careful with this. My friend did that and the dirt had asbestos and other contaminants in it. The DEC was at their house, they were fined and they had to pay to have it removed. It was a whole ordeal.

wow...thanks for letting me know! will stay away from it. i guess when it is too good to be true, it's because it generally is.
