Wantagh Woods and Seaford
Hi all,
We are currently looking to buy and have been trying to focus on Wantagh Woods. We have a family member who lives there and likes it a lot. However, lately, we haven't seen anything that really fits what we want. We were looking between 400k and 500k but trying not to go higher than 13k in taxes....10-12k would be better.........
Now....
How is Seaford in comparison? We'd only want the area parallel to Wantagh Woods (north of Sunrise and South of Jersusalem).
Please feel free to FM me anything about -comparisons to Wantagh Woods -Town areas (Food shopping centers etc) -Anything else too
It's hard for us to just "sit" in the neighborhood to get a feel b/c we have a 21 month old who won't wanna sit and hang out in a car lol

Re: Wantagh Woods and Seaford
I grew up in Seaford, and my sister lives in Wantagh Woods, so I very familiar with both areas. I work selling homes in both areas.
You are talking about comparing Seaford Manor with Wantagh Woods. One thing that comes to mind is style of homes. Wantagh Woods is mostly capes, ranches, colonials. You don't find a lot if split levels there. There are a lot of splits in Seaford Manor. Also, basements - several blocks in Wantagh Woods have hones built on stream beds, no basements (mainly the college streets, Princeton Dr, temple, etc). Wantagh Woods has some bigger higher end homes -- and more new construction -- than Seaford Manor. There is a "cache" to Wantagh Woods, I think both areas are nice!
Seaford Manor doesn't really have the proximity to shopping, bars, restaurants, etc that Wantagh Woods has on Wantagh Ave. Washington Ave has a few little places.., pizza shop, etc. but there is a nice playground on Washington by Jerusalem Ave.
Seaford has only 2 elementary schools, Wantagh has 3. Seaford Manor goes to Manor elementary. Wantagh Woods goes to the Wantagh School on Beech St.
Let me know if you have more questions!

Wantagh Woods and Seaford
We bought in seaford two years ago and absolutely fell in love with the area. Seaford is a smaller town, but we really have a small town vibe with our neighbors and a true sense of community, which I love.

that's good to hear. Where is the nearest food shopping center? Is there a certain area that people go to? Like for example, the intersection of Jerusalem Ave and Wantagh Ave has little stores..... where do you go in your Seaford neighborhood? Thanks!

Wantagh Woods and Seaford
I'm not as familiar with the Seaford area, but know Wantagh pretty well and our search was mainly in Wantagh when we bought the 2nd time.
If you're not finding what you're looking for in Wantagh woods, there is always Merrick woods, which has a similar feel and cache'.
We like the area we chose, which is the Forest Lake section of Wantagh in the section with Capes and Colonials, not splits. Additonally there is the unnamed, but basically "Twin Lakes" section of Wantagh that is nice and full of mature trees.
I would also say, although the stores aren't terrible, there really is no downtown to Wantagh. Merrick has a much nicer downtown.

I live in the Seaford Manor area. We usually do grocery shopping at Waldbaums which is on the corner of Jerusalem and Hicksville Road.

Thanks for the info, yes, we aren't excluding Forest or Twin Lake section, which I forgot to mention. I know what you mean regarding no downtown, we actually had to drive through Merrick yesterday and said exactly what you mentioned regarding a town/main st!

We live in between sunrise and merrick, so I go to a few different places-there's a pathmark on merrick rd, uncle Giuseppe's not much further east, I'll also go to the trader joes in merrick.

Wantagh Woods is ideal but its $$$$
I grew up in Seaford, great area as well. Wantagh and Seaford both are great towns to raise a family. Both good SDs but if it were me, I'd chose Wantagh if you can! (coming from someone who graduated SHS )

Re: Wantagh Woods and Seaford
Both towns have everything you need. They are both relatively small towns, graduating between 175-200 per class. You really can't go wrong with either but if I were choosing, I would want
Wantagh Woods in Wantagh
OR
Seaford Manor area in Seaford (area north of Sunrise Hwy but south of Jerusalem - between 135 and Hicksville Rd - parts may actually be Massapequa.)
You might consider all the towns between Merrick - Massapequa
(Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh, Seaford, Massapequa)

Re: Wantagh Woods and Seaford
DH is from Seaford. His family and extended family still live there.
There is a strong sense of community and most of his friends still live there and are raising their family there.
We know several people who live in the area mentioned, although he grew up South of Merrick Rd.
We would've loved to have bought there too but couldn't afford it at the time (pre-Sandy).
We may consider it again for our forever home.
His parents are actually trying to convince one of their kids to buy their house so they can move out East.

Re: Wantagh Woods and Seaford
Thanks everyone for the tips! I really appreciate it. MY SIL loves Wantagh Woods and has lived there for 6 years now. Every time we go there, we love it and feel "at home". The Woods are definitely our desire, but I wanted some info/ education about the surrounding towns.

Re: Wantagh Woods and Seaford
Massapequa also has a very good school district , seaford is a very small district. Also the taxes in massapequa are a little lower than wantagh and seaford because of the industry thats there.
