Ceiling fan over dining room table?
Do most people have a ceiling fan or just a light? We would like to put in a ceiling fan ( I think, still a bit on the fence about it), but I cant find any that look nice enough for a dining room. Our dining room is not super fancy, but I'm having trouble finding a nice looking light/fan. Any store recs or opinions about ceiling fan over dining room table?

Re: Ceiling fan over dining room table?
Most people do not have a ceiling fan over their dr table. Usually that's where a chandelier goes.

Right, it would be a ceiling fan & light together. Our dining room is not super fancy so we wouldnt do a fancy chandelier but its a really big room so I was thinking a big ceiling fan/light might look nice to fill the space.

Re: Ceiling fan over dining room table?
I love ceiling fans, and put one in every room of our new addition (5 rooms, 5 fans), but I don't think I'd put one over the dining room table.

Ceiling fan over dining room table?
Our dining room is not very formal though and I feel like I need something big to fill the ceiling space. I thought a ceiling fan would look Ok in there. Where else besides Lowes/HD have nice light fixtures? I'm in Nassau. TIA!

You can try a lighting store but it will probably be more expensive.
Online.

Re: Ceiling fan over dining room table?
My mom has a ceiling fan over the dining room table, and it has 4 different speeds. It doesn't blow anything around on low and or on medium. It actually facilitates the air conditioning in the summer across the rooms very well. I think it's a good idea.

Ceiling fan over dining room table?
Try Elements lighting store on Glen Cove Rd - they have so many different and interesting light fixtures.
When I was looking for one for our dining room, I wasn't sure about what size fixture to buy. I did a google search and found a formula to figure out the right size fixture for a room. If I remember correctly it was to just add the length and width of the room (ex 15 ft + 20 ft = 35) so your fixture should be 35 inches across
I wouldn't put a fan over the dining table - everything blowing around would drive me crazy

Re: Ceiling fan over dining room table?
Honestly, I think it would look weird. I would just look for an informal chandelier or light fixture. I think one of those drum style fixtures would probably look nice and fill a space without looking too formal. We have a pretty informal DR and just have a very simple chandelier. This is what we have from HD.

I have one over mine and nothing blows around on the table. I never put it on high enough for that to happen.

Re: Ceiling fan over dining room table?
Check out ATG Stores, they were recently acquired by Lowes, but have a MUCH larger selection of chandeliers, see the link below. We purchased our matching set of pendants and chandelier from there.

Ceiling fan over dining room table?
We have a fan over the dining room table. It isn't on all the time, only during the summer when the AC is on to get the air going to the back room. It has never blown anything off the table when we were eating. You can flip the switch so it pulls the air up instead of pushing it down.

Ceiling fan over dining room table?
In 2 apartments I've lived in they had ceiling fans with lights over the dinning table in the dinning room. Nothing blew off the table because we never kept the fan on mock speed lol.
