Cost of Repairs - is this expensive?

Install Ceiling Fan (existing light in center of room) $125 Additional $60 for fan box brackets

Hollow 6 panel doors - pre hung, new casings $350 each Was told needed to do prehung as older home has settled etc and cannot just replace door ?

Remove backsplace $150

Install new backsplash - 30 sq feet - $800 (Glass and mosaic tile, we pay for tile in addition)

Install 2 light sconces - these have to be moved from current location to a few feet away on current wall, wall repaired, etc $150

DH and I are not handy and don't even own tools. Also want the backsplash to be perfect (level, etc) and I know we would screw it up.

If you think this is really high - any reccos for general contractor or otherwise to assist?

I would say this is pretty reasonable.

I'm married to a contractor and remember you are paying primarily for their time and expertise.

Probably not but I would save some of it by doing it myself. I know you say you are not handy but taking down a back splash is not difficult. Also, hanging g a ceiling fan when there is already a box in the ceiling is easy too.

I am the complete opposite LOL. Providing that I can afford to pay someone, for jobs like these I would. Can't stand DIY projects and sometimes it can cost you more time/money especially for those who aren't handy (like myself).

To OP, it all sounds reasonable.

I'd say it depends on a few things...

1) on the prehung doors, does this include the cost of the casing and door? what about doorknob? not to question, but why do you want hallow core doors? why not get solid ones? better for sound transmission, more solid, etc. Ours were probably $150 each prehung about $75 more than hollow

2) the light sconces sound downright cheap to do if they are really repairing the wall to ready for paint condition.... are they painting?

3) the backspash price sounds a little high, we paid around $500, we had more sqft, but we didn't have a mosaic.

basically, I don't think what you're being quoted overall is high assuming they do everything well. The biggest concerns should be surrounding making sure the backsplash is perfect, the repairs in the wall are paint ready, and the trim work around the doors lines up nicely with the existing wall and baseboard.

Your backsplash price sounds a little high to me -- we paid $550 for the labor and cement/adhesion material (paid for the tiles on our own) and had a mosaic glass tile runner in between travertine tile. We used Tile By Joey (he has a website). He was quick, clean, and a nice guy!

Seems reasonably priced, I had similar things done at these prices. I would find out if maybe the mosaic runs more expensive to see if this is the best price.

i have glass tile as well. it is very dangerous and you have to be very careful and precise when installing it. I do not think that you are paying too much for the install. If it were ceramic, etc I would say it is very high.

The ceiling fan sounds about right to me. While I think we probably could have done it ourselves - I was so worried it would fall on our baby - so I wasn't risking it. We got a similar quote.

Everything sounds reasonable except the backsplash... that sounds off by a few hundred.... I think for us it was $500-ish.
