How long does a title report usually take?

My attorney ordered the title awhile ago. At least 3 weeks ago. We are clear to close on the banks end, but my attorney just told me their lawyer is waiting for the title. Is this most likely my attorney holding things up? She said it should be ready "soon".

She just wrote back to me that it takes a few weeks for a title to be completed.

ETA: Monday will be 3 weeks since it was ordered.

Ours took a while - definitely more than 2 weeks. But we had an extended close so we weren't in a rush. I'm sure it'll be another week or so. Things might be delayed because of the holiday last week.

It probably depends on the title company, but in my experience, about 2 weeks is the norm.

But this is a pet peeve of mine with real estate -- I cannot STAND when attorneys wait until late in the process to order title. Then, everyone's ready to close, and we find out we have to wait on title. Also, sometimes things do crop up on title that need to be resolved (and it can take additional time to do that).

So I always ask my buyer clients to ask their attorney to order title early in the process, right after we go to contract, as well as order a new survey if the attorney is going to want one. Sometimes, attorneys are reluctant to order title early, because they don't want their client to have to unnecessarily pay if the transaction doesn't close. But it's only a few hundred dollars, and most attorneys have ongoing relationships with the title companies they use such that if a sale fell apart, the title company might waive the fee.

In any event, if your attorney did in fact order title 3 weeks ago, I would expect the report to be in any day (and if not, then I'd find out why -- and maybe your attorney should start using other title companies!).
