Re: Barrique Wine Bar?

I've only been there for drinks and it really wasn't what I expected. "Wine bar" makes me think quiet place to sit and have a glass of wine. . . The few nights I've been there it's been a noisy typical bar. DH and I couldn't believe people were actually sitting there having dinner with as loud as it was. I may have only been there on the weekend, so it might be a bit more quiet during the week.

Re: Barrique Wine Bar?

My DH go here when we're having a quick date night. We tend to go early, by 5:00 though. In the summer we prefer to sit by the front bar/window and people watch. We can also sit in the alleyway too this time of year. We split a thin crust pizza and a bottle of wine. We both enjoy it a lot.

We've ordered off the menu before too, and since it's all tapas, it's smaller portions and I don't love it. Not because of the size, more because I just don't like all the food.

If you go later, it gets crowded and it's loud in there. The tables are close together and we've found ourselves practically yelling across the table to one another. It's ok if you're with friends and all having a good time. But when I'm out with my husband (and not with my kids), I don't want to have to struggle having a conversation with him. I do that on a nightly basis with two yelling kids at home!

Overall, we do like going there, and that's why we keep going back. We just had to find a time that worked for us and we got to enjoy it our way.

ETA: I find Babylon to be a lot quieter in the summer months. Most people are out at fire island or the other beaches. It's such a great time to get acquainted with the town because there aren't that many crowds and no wait-times at the restaurants.

It's a very cute place but can get crowded quickly because it's small on the inside. They have a small outside area (almost like an alley) with additional seating too. Most of the bartenders and waiters are pretty good with suggesting wines based on what you like. So if you say you like peppery red wines, they'll suggest a glass or bottle for you to try. I believe tonight is their $10 off a bottle special and they should have live music around 8pm (I think?). The food is good but it's all small plates/tapas. Their pizzas are good and enough to split between 2 or 3 people. If you order food, definitely under-order and share because it can get expensive. You can always order more if you're still hungry. Enjoy!

I love this place! I take everyone I know there and they end up loving it as well. But it is very small for a wine bar, and gets very crowded and quick. When it's nicer weather, I always opt to sit outside because it's less noisy and obviously less crowded.

It is a tapas restaurant, so all food is small portions, made to order and comes out when it's ready. So don't expect everything to come out at once. You can spend hours there easily if you order a lot of different plates.

I like to go on Tuesdays so I can get their half priced wine flights to try different wines that I normally wouldn't. I haven't had a waiter or waitress there that did not know what they were talking about (and they're really nice. I've been given new glasses of wine if I didn't like a certain one out of my three from the flights).

Re: Barrique Wine Bar?

There is a wine and cheese shop in the village too if you are looking for something more low key. They open the front windows on nice days/evenings so it is more "open air." I've never been there- but I've walked by a bunch of times and said "I really want to try it!" lol

ETA: I looked it up- Molto Vino

Re: Barrique Wine Bar?

I have been there once with my husband on a date night. We sat in the outdoor area. I wasn't that impressed with the food and felt it was $$ for what you were getting. We haven't been back since.

Re: Barrique Wine Bar?

Thanks guys. We are looking for a place for DH and I to have a quick date night type thing.
I also came across another one in Babylon, Molto Vino.
I wonder if that is any good...

Re: Barrique Wine Bar?

We are going out to dinner this Saturday. We haven't decided where yet, but our two choices right now are Molto Vino and Tres Palms. Two different type of restaurants. We just aren't sure what we feel like yet. I can update you after we go!

Personally, I like Barrique. It's noisy and crowded but I don't mind that. They have a great selection of wine. I like that you can order cheese/meat platters to accompany the wine or actually have a meal. I thought the food was good. It's the same owners as Argyle Grille.

Molto Vino seems much more quiet and low key. I have not tried it yet.

I love Barrique. Yes, it's noisy on the inside because it's small, but the outdoor seating is really nice too.

Re: Barrique Wine Bar?- Update- went to Molto Vino instead

Ended up at Molto Vino last night instead.
LOVED it.
Wan't super crowded.
Beautiful space, loved the atmosphere.
We sat at a table in the window and they had the windows open and it was a perfect night weather wise for that.
They also had an outdoor patio area in the back- want to sit out there next time, it looked very nice.

Had a bottle of wine- they have a pretty large selection and decent prices.

Also had a brick oven margarita pizza (very good) and DH had a paninni that we were supposed to share, but it had some funky smelling cheese on it, and I don't do funky smelling cheese Chat Icon so he got to eat the whole thing and I picked on the side salad it came with.

They had a nice selection of meat/cheese platters too if you are into that.

Highly recommend the place.

We passed by Barrique which is just a few doors down and it was much more crowded and noisy. Different vibe, which isn't bad, but what we were looking for Molto Vino was much better for last night.
