Has anyone stained an Oak dresser darker before? I don't believe it has much of a shine so there is minimal stripping; just the stain and top coat.

This is doable right? It's a long dresser 6 drawers.

I recently stained a table darker and it was actually very easy and I love how it came out. The stain I bought (I forget the brand name) said on the can that it could be used over existing stain without having to fully strip and sand the old stain away. Look for a stain like that. All I did was sand the surfaces bit to rough it up, wiped away the dust with a damp rag, and just did one coat of the new stain. I probably could have or should have done a second coat but I was happy with how it looked with just the one coat so I left it.

Try General Finishes Gel Stain. It's awesome and you don't have to strip anything down. If you Google the company you'll find lots of before and afters, many of which are oak.

It's only available online. You can try Woodcraft, Rockler, and even Amazon. We just finished re-doing our kitchen cabinets with both their gel and water stain. It was so easy to work with and the cabinets look amazing.

Thanks so much!!! I will definitely look for that stains that do NOT require much stripping before hand!
