If you've stopped wearing leather...
What have you done with leather items that you already own?
I recently stopped PURCHASING leather items (I only had purses/shoes) and I've sold quite a few of my old purses (and my Uggs will sell today) on eBay. But, I have a few pairs of shoes that I've had for years and love. I'd hate to spend the $$ to replace them. What have you done? tossed them? Am I being selfish!??
PS - I'm not a vegan. I love cheese too much for that.

Re: If you've stopped wearing leather...
I'm not vegan either due to my love of cheese. Kindered spirits! It really is an entire food group if you ask me.
I don't wear leather. My Doc Martens remain my only leather item from my pre-animal rights days. I went veg at 12 but still wore leather for a time there, up until I was about 17. (Yup...my Docs are that old...)
I still wear them. And other leather things I had back then...I wore them too. I already had those things, I just made a conscious effort not to buy any more of them.
Mooshoes is a cool vegan shoe store in the city that's worth checking out!

Wow I am totally in the same boat as you. Stopped eating meat at age 12, and didn't wear leather either... but started wearing leather bags and shoes in my 20's... giving it up now. Glad to see its not (too) hypocritical of me to hang on to some of my old favorites.

That's so cool! It's not hypocritical to hold on to a few things. You're already saving lives by not eating them! DH is also vegetarian but was wearing leather up until a couple of years ago. He was FIXATED on a leather couch for our living room three years ago. I didn't want it because of my ethical stance. Would not stop nagging me about wanting it, blah blah blah. I came up with the perfect solution...we could buy the couch if we also donated, dollar for dollar, the price of the couch to an Catskill Animal Sanctuary.
He thought for awhile about it but ultimately didn't want to spend/donate so much.
So I won. Perfect solution, indeed!

Re: If you've stopped wearing leather...
I would keep wearing leather items that I've already purchased. Nothing you can do about that now.

Re: If you've stopped wearing leather...
If you already own leather items I would keep using them, just not adding any new leather items going forward. Once you wear them out replace with animal-friendly vegan substitutes. Think of it as throwing out items you already own would just be wasteful and not good for the environment. No need to feel guilty.

I agree with this. I think it seems worse to not use them.

Re: If you've stopped wearing leather...
Ty. I do still have a few items (mainly some boots) but I couldn't wear the Uggs anymore after knowing about the skinning alive thing, so I sold them on eBay (they were old so I only got $56) and donated that money to an animal sanctuary. As for my black boots that are in great shape... I think I'll hang onto them for this season.

Re: If you've stopped wearing leather...
Yes. Not that I suppose it matters, but I guess I assumed that they would humanely euthanize the animals first. But no, they do not (or at least they did not when that story broke last year)
But they, like Burlington Coat Factory, have lost my business forever.
