Water Filtration in Home
How much does this cost? Can you recommend a company? Is this better than filtered water from fridge? Please let me know as I know nothing about this. We are going to renovate our kitchen in the next year so I am curious. Thanks

I have a Culligan whole house water filter system as our well water has a lot of iron, manganese and calcium in it, plus it's acid. Call Culligan and have someone come test your water and talk to you about what might be suitable.
We have so much iron in our water that my blonde hair began turning orange from it, which was not good.

It depends on your water. North shore hard very hard water with the same issues as this poster, south shore typically doesn't. I have a whole house filtration system and reverse osmosis at the sink for drinking and cooking with. It's also run to the fridge so my fridge water and ice is filtered. Reverse osmosis is very different than your fridge filter, and a thousand times better. I chose a whole house filter because we are on the south shore in Suffolk and all of the superfund sites and toxic plumes make me nervous, as well as the pesticides and VOC's in the groundwater. All of those toxins are absorbed into your skin when you bathe and shower, and I didn't want to be washing my veggies in contaminated water either. All of Long Island has horrible water.

We almost just had a system installed by Rainsoft. We submitted a water sample for testing through HD and then rainsoft came and did a loooong test/presentation. It was going to cost $5500 for a whole house filter plus the reverse osmosis on the fridge and sink. It included installation and a lifetime warranty covering all parts and repairs. According to DH's research it's a great product but it's just too expensive for us and you're paying a lot for the warranty which I don't think is worth it. DH plans to install a system himself, I forget which brand but I can check. The parts should cost somewhere between 1500-1800.
