When is the soonest you can find out the sex?
I'm 9 weeks tomorrow and already dying to know! I think that most people find out at the anatomy scan -- is that true? I also heard there is a blood test that reveals the sex of the baby? If so, when does that happen? I'm assuming that you have to pay out of pocket for that, as its not medically necessary to have it done. Can anyone clarify this for me? Thanks!

When is the soonest you can find out the sex?
Most people wait until the a/s, but if you are eligible for certain blood tests (I was not) they can tell at around 12 weeks (with the 12 week bw, takes a little time for you to get the results back).... but I could be wrong. I wouldn't recommend any bw that isn't covered by your insurance unless you can afford a few extra hundred dollars out of pocket.

Yes I agree with the above. I'm not positive that all insurances cover the test which also checks for abnormalities and birth defects. I think they do it if someone is 35 or older. My friend declined the test bc her insurance did not cover it and it was around $300.
I'm also dying to find out and will have to decline the test as well bc my insurance won't cover it. I'm over analyzing every single symptom I'm having. I'm so impatient!

You can go to one of those 3d places at 16 weeks. That's what I did with my first. Otherwise you'll have to wait till 20 weeks

If you don't want to pay for a blood test and want to find out sooner than 20 weeks you can go for an elective 3d gender sono- I did mine with both pregnancies at 16 weeks. There are a bunch on LI- I went to Baby Imprints both times. Gender determination was $90 and worth every penny!!!! Got a bunch of 3d pics printed and on cd and found out both times I was having a boy! My babies are super uncooperative and the sono tech was so patient and helpful! Took a while, but she made sure she was positive before telling me both times!

I found out at 12 weeks by doing the panorama blood test. This test also checks for chromosome abnormalities. My doctor had told me that if it wasn't covered by insurance it was free, which it was. It was a test that had been reserved for high risk pregnancies or for women over 35, but they recently started offering the test to others. You could always bring up that bw with your doctor.

Ds#1 was at around 15 to 17 weeks. Ds#2 was via sono at 12 weeks 5 days! He was clearly a boy lol. Hopefully for Dc#3 the doctor can tell me at 16 weeks at my next appointment with him. I am 13 weeks on Wednesday and dying to know.

This! our OB didnt even give us a sono at 16 weeks :( we are getting our next one at 19w6d. THIS KID BETTER BE SHOWING IT!

ditto. i took the blood test at 10 weeks and got my results yesterday at 12 weeks. i was told i will not be paying for it

This, I had the bw done at my 12 week appointment. At 14 weeks I had a sono and the tech said definitely girl. The bw came back 3-5 days after the sono and confirmed girl.
