Nycdoe- lesson plans
NYC teachers-- do your principals ask to see your lesson plans randomly and do you have a written lesson plan for every lesson you teach if you are an elem teacher. This is a hot topic in my school so I was curious about other schools.

No, my principal never asks for a lesson plan outside of an observation. I do not have typed lesson plans daily.....just the good old teacher's plan book that I jot down lessons in the box. My school is 50/50, some do what I do, others bought the lessons off teachers pay teachers to print as needed. Elementary school in the Bronx.

Doesnt randomly check however we are basically told we have to write up lessons for everything. If we dont we would have no plans to show when observed. Its BS! Its way too much work that takes away from planning in other ways.
My grade is great and we splitup the planning

Nycdoe- lesson plans
Last year, we bought our math plans on TPT, which was money well spent!!! Then a colleague and I typed up the ready gen. This was all put in a binder for if they came in. However, I still had my plan book on my desk.
This year, I'm in a new grade and they are all done but I'm not printing them out. But I jot down notes in my plan book and I do A LOT of writing things in the teachers guide book too!
My principal knows that a lot of great lessons happen off the cuff and are often NOT on paper.

no mine does not, and according to our UFT rep, they cannot ask you for them. They can be supplements do your APPR informal and formal observations, but are not required. They said that a written plan is not legally required of us, and that posting the GQ, essential question, objective, and do now in a place in the classroom that is noticeable, then that is all we need
