Secondary Teachers: Lesson Plans
How is your planning done?
In a lesson plan book or on a formal sheet of paper like in college classes?
Do you list the standards?
Does your district/school specify how lesson planning needs to be done?

Re: Secondary Teachers: Lesson Plans
I do weekly plans in Microsoft word. I like to do them on the computer - makes it so much easier to send to multiple people.
My math coordinator likes to see certain things, so they are pretty detailed, and always includes the standards.

Re: Secondary Teachers: Lesson Plans
I use the traditional plan book for a brief summary of what I'm doing. My AP looks at it from time to time. Then, I have a template that I use for the actual lesson that's much more detailed. Ideally, it's all typed, but sometimes I fill in the template by hand.

Re: Secondary Teachers: Lesson Plans
Last year, mine were collected every Friday and they were very detailed. Motivation, Do Now, PowerPoint Details, Activity, Summary. I typed them all up. My chair checked them.
This year (new school) the principal said he will collect them every few weeks and he wants to see standards.....ugh!!!!

Re: Secondary Teachers: Lesson Plans
My dept chair had a specific format he wanted and I typed them. This is my tenure year and he let me off the hook!!!!
I HATED doing them because I had my own method and would wind up writing lesson over for him.

i write in my lesson plan book the topic and the HW
My "lesson plan" is written on looseleaf and it is just what examples i am doing and definitions and steps (math teacher)

Re: Secondary Teachers: Lesson Plans
Ours are not collected.
I write mine in 2 places because I am a little OCD. I write detailed plans in a chart form in the binder with the unit I am teaching (these are typed). I also write the basics in my plan book so I can see a visual of the weeks, months, etc...

Re: Secondary Teachers: Lesson Plans
Ours is done anyway that we would like, we just have to hand a copy of it in once a week.

Re: Secondary Teachers: Lesson Plans
Our department chair collects plan books every Monday for untenured teachers and every other Monday for tenured teachers. I was extremely detailed my first year. Now I just include the Aim, Do Now, Activity, and Homework. I did my plans on the computer last year, so I handed it in a binder, but I hated it, so this year I am going back to writing it in a plan book. Every department chair does it differently in our building.
