BTDT: BF- What supplies do you recommend?

So my goal is to BF for at least as long as my maternity leave.

I am working on my registry and wondering what supplies I will definitiely need beforehand and what I should wait and see.

Also what products/brands do you recommend?

There is so much out there, i'm confused

Things to have on hand I'd say a good nursing pillow-I LOVED the my breastfriend. It had firm support that went all the way around to my back and snapped close. i could rest baby on top feed him; chill out if I wanted. There was a holder for my cell phone too!

Also lanolin. I had cracked sore nipples and that was a life saver ( I think had to place an Amazon order and have it shipped to me since I didn't know to get it beforehand). (Lansinoh was my fav brand)

Nursing pads (for leaking). (Lansinoh was the softest I liked too)

If you plan to pump you can get your pump covered through your insurance. It came with everything I needed; and I just ended up getting new flangs in a larger size; tubing; and those suction things I can't remember what they're called.

Also BM storage bags if you want to freeze your milk but again that's not something you need right away.

Honestly I can think of anything else to have beforehand. Other than patience; and a good support system. I went to see a LC when DS was 2 weeks old. She was a life saver!

I liked lansinoh brand for nursing pads, lanolin, and milk storage bags. When I wasn't leaking so much I switched to reusable bamboobies pads. A nursing cover- not a necessity but I liked it for the early weeks when I was nursing often and didn't want to leave the room every time. Vitamin D drops for the baby like d vi sol. I had a boppy but never really used it for nursing but a lot of people love them. Other than that, if you decide to pump you may want extra parts and the cleaning wipes or sterilizing bags.

Good suggestion on the cleaning wipes and sterilizing bags. I didn't start using those until I went back to work; would wash my parts and boil them at home. But the wipes and bags are SO much easier!

Lots and lots of cream!! I liked the lasinoh one better than the medela one.

I also pumped so dh could give dd one bottle to make him feel included
Pump, double ideally.
Pumping bra is a must so you're hands free
If you do pump, or even if you don't actually...make sure you have a glass of water, the remote, an iPad or books lol.

Here's the things that I've been using - DS is a little over 2 months now.

- Lansinoh cream - this was a MUST during the first few weeks when BF'ing was very painful. I'm not using it as much now, maybe once or twice a week, but super handy in the beginning.

- My brestfriend pillow - I loved this thing in the beginning and still do. It's super comfortable for both of us.

- For pumping, I ended up getting one of these sets for the Medela pump (which I got free through insurance) - http://www.buybuybaby.com/store/product/medela-reg-breastmilk-storage-solution/1040059464?Keyword=medela …The bottles are great as well as the storage system.

- I also got him two sets of bottles - we went w/ the Avent bottles

- Hot compression things - in the beginning, my breast were in pain. It really helps putting some hot compressions on them (same way a really hot shower helps). I got the Medela ones because that's what I found on the quick, but guessing you can get whatever.

- Not really materials - but especially in the beginning when sometimes he was feeding over an hour - I always made sure to have a full bottle of water, a snack, remote control, etc. next to me.

- I bought a hands free pump bra but HATED it. I don't know if it's because I have a larger chest, but it literally made me feel like I can't breathe, so I've used it once or twice and that's it.

- Now that I'm pumping more often (working on a stash for freezer + having bottles for when we go out etc), I got the sanitizing bags which are AWESOME. Put all the materials in there, in microwave and BAM sanitized. It's awesome.
