CIGNA Coverage for IUI - Please Help
Hello,
Just a small background - my husband and I have been trying for over a year now. After 8 months we got pregnant but it unfortunately ended in a miscarriage :(. We recently started seeing an RE and found there is a sperm antibody issue. She said that IUI is the best route for us. I called my insurance (CIGNA) before I even started with the RE to see what I was covered under for infertility. I was told 6 IUIs in a year and no IVF coverage. The financial consultant at the RE was also told by Cigna that 6 IUIs are covered per year. Last week we did our first IUI. We did a natural one since by the time we found out it was a sperm issue I was too far along in my cycle to start a follicle stimulator etc. I am ovulating on my own and my cycle seems to be "normal" whatever that means ;). However, if this cycle doesn't work out we would move on to a medicated IUI cycle.
Yesterday I get a call from my RE financial consultant saying that Cigna is rejecting the insurance claims for the iui stating I am only covered for diagnostics and not the actual insemination. She explained to them that that is not what the rep told her (or me) so they said they will try to submit this one for reimbursement since it was their mistake but I won't be covered for any others :(. I was so upset and called the insurance company and casually asked again can you tell me what I'm covered under for infertility. The rep easily tells me 6 IUIs. I explain what's going on he puts me on hold comes back and says oh that's a mistake you're covered for diagnostic but not insemination. I said even though you just read to me that I am covered. He said yes there seems to be a miscommunication in the insurance I will look into it and try to get it resolved.
I am so frustrated and upset, talk about putting even more pressure on hoping this cycle works :(. Does anyone have any experience with Cigna and IUIs? I'm sure maybe it's different each plan but were you ever told conflicting information and it somehow worked out? Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!!!!

Re: CIGNA Coverage for IUI - Please Help
I am sorry that you are going through this!
I don't have Cigna but know what you going through since I had my insurance co (UHC) give me 2 different answers regarding my remaining IF coverage.
These companies can be frustrating, but you have to stay on top of them and if necessary appeal some of their wacky decisions.
Good luck
