Vitamin D
Hey ya'll,
Just thought I'd share with you that my new doc, San Roman reports that new studies show that there is a strong correlation between VIT D levels and IVF success. He cites a recent study that showed a 50% increase in pregnancies when VIT D levels were above 30.
This is my 4th doc that I've been in front of and this has never been raised before as a key issue and area to address.
Food for thought!

Vitamin D
This is true!! My last cycle my vitamin D was low prior to starting estrace and that FET cycle was a bust. I am currently on vitamin D, C and A supplements since C and A helps with immune issues (my world) and D since it's so low.

Vitamin D
I have been on 2000mg a day of VIT D for the past week and will have to keep it up until I get over 30. the doc won't even consider doing an FET until my level is above 30 and TSH (thyroid) is close to 1.0
After IUI's, Fresh and frozen IVF's......if this serious doc attention to levels and detail results in a healthy baby I will be 1) overjoyed and want to marry San Roman 2) want to scream and more at all other fert. docs who didn't give it the same attention.

Re: Vitamin D
that's interesting, thanks for the information. It explains why my RE keeps testing my levels. They were super low when I first started seeing him. Now I take 5000 units a day.

Re: Vitamin D
My nurse explained this to me my last cycle. My levels were only an 11, so I had to supplement. Apparently low vitamin D has a strong correlation with infertility

Re: Vitamin D
There are a lot of studies showing that low Vit D causes quite a few different medical issues and IF is def. one of them. Though it is a new problem, because of the use of sunscreen, there are a lot of people with low levels. I would imagine you wear a lot of sunscreen being so fair.
Supplements are good. But there is no better way to get it then to spend at least 10 minutes, arms exposed, in the sun. It will help your levels rise faster.
THIS FET IS IT! IT IS!!!!

Vitamin D
5000 a day???! Holy smokes - I will call on Monday and ask about whether I should be taking even more than 2000. I would love to do a December FET but I know he won't approve until my numbers are in the high range.
Phyllis, thank you so much for your positivity and support!!! Yes, I am practically see through in skin tone and likely was born with a Vit D deficiency considering the sun is my enemy! I will be more conscious to get out there as you said with arms out and all. keep up the positive thoughts and hopefully 2015 will be something altogether different for me in a really good way :)
P.S. I am thinking about changing my name on here to hoping2015 as I cannot take knowing that I have been hanging on this board with hope and loss since 2013 and even before I joined the board. New beginnings...new beginnings :)

Re: Vitamin D
My OB had me on 4000 units a day when I was pregnant with DD. He considered a "normal" level to be between 30 and 80. Before the supplements, my level was in the 20s, and after them, it was 31 or 32 (this was in the dead of winter). So it's not like 4000 had much of an impact on my levels. I don't think there's any harm in taking high levels of the supplements.

Yes, my Dr. (same practice, diff. office) had me on 2000UI per day + prenatals. I still take it now that I'm pregnant.

Re: Vitamin D
I have to ask my OB about this. I just got my paperwork from my RE's office when I "graduated" and my Vit D levels were 29, and it was circled, but no one said anything to me. I am not sure if I should be supplementing.
